changing filter cap values

Re: changing filter cap values

Well thank you LLL for your concern and other advice I appreciate it and I do my work with a tech so we do it together so I can learn at the same time and we do drain everything down before any mods at all.And thank you GV for the insight on what to do and I will try both ways you suggested and let you know what I go with either removal of one cap and 2 power tubes or lower cap values. I will keep you guys posted on what worked and what sounded best.

No problemo.

Yes, drop that filtering down for more "squish".

Re: changing filter cap values

Yes it is the beauty of running your own internet forum.

http://www.tmrzoo.com/boards/Thread-LLL-I-have-a-question-for-ya

Isn't it funny how:

a) Golden Vulture said he wouldn't muck things up here (he continues to do so)

and

b) he pulls a post over a year old out of his arse (like anybody cares)

Maybe you could suggest to him some Prep H for that seriously strange case of butthurt?

Any more comments, PM me... or, join my forum :D

PS - to answer Big Flannel's question... tell him that instead of projecting himself onto other people, he needs to take a long look in the mirror; all the answers he seeks lie within.

Oh and to quit squeezing his moobs and get to practicing.

Re: changing filter cap values

Ok job done and amp sounds great. Now I have the "Squish" I want. We couldn't find a radial caps in 550v with lower uf so we did axial type caps in series, still retained voltage and lowered my uf to 50uf using 2 100uf caps, cut that value in half since they are in series and you got it. I'll post a pic.

Re: changing filter cap values

Here is the two (axial)type caps in series. Also in pic is a 25watt 100ohm resistor I added after bridge rectifier, and you can see the wires to the choke in pic also.IMG_0953.jpg

Clips or it didn't happen.

:naughty:

(yes, that's a joke)

Not only do you get more squish, you get better touch sensitivity.

Re: changing filter cap values

i WILL DEF POST SOME CLIPS MAN SHE FEELS AMAZING AND SOUNDS GREAT!!!

Re: changing filter cap values

I think Im gonna just go ahead and change the screen cap as well to 47uf its older and want a newer one in there.

Re: changing filter cap values

Does anybody know what values to change to take some treble off the Windsor?

Re: changing filter cap values

Does it have a bright cap on the main volume?

If you're not running the amp cranked, you could use a smaller cap there so the treble isn't so headcuttingly bright.

I don't know current value, but you could start with 500pF.

Re: changing filter cap values

Im actually going to remove C-36/C-37 first and see if that helps on the Schematic. But yeah it does have a bright cap by volume to lower if I have to thanks bud.

Re: changing filter cap values

Ok does anyone know how to get more range in my bias adjuster pot? Its all the way maxed out and still very cold in my Windsor head. What do I need to change to get it hotter?

You'll have to change the bias resistor (I forget whether to change to larger or smaller value).

I had to do that when I modded my amp 3 years ago to run at 100v so the bias would get in range.

Re: changing filter cap values

You can lower the value of R23 or raise the value of R20.
Just pick one, jump in a value change, when you get it to where you need it.....solder it in.
good luck

Re: changing filter cap values

Yeah Im gonna try lowering R23 to 27k instead of the stock 39k
