Changing the Humbuckers in Epiphone G-400

My equipment: Guitar - Epiphone SG g-400, Amp - Vox VT40+.
I like playing: Metallica, Nirvana, Pixies, AC/DC, The shadows, The Ventures, etc.
I would like to have a better distortion and a better clean sound than the stock Humbuckers.
Frankly the SD pickups are too expensive, considering that the guitar alone cost around 300$.
Which bridge and neck Humbuckers from GFS or other cheaper alternative do you recommend?

Re: Changing the Humbuckers in Epiphone G-400

In my LP copy I went with a gfs vintage 59 In the bridge and a crunchy pat in the neck

They aren't Seymour Duncan's but they sound good.
I went with the crunchy to get more treble at that position as the guitar was kinda dark sounding with the stock pickup.
I'm not claiming they are " the best thing evah" but they sound very good regardless of the price.

Used Duncans should be somewhere in your price range and they often show up for only slightly more than GFS pickups.

But if you must go with GFS, the Vintage '59 neck and Vintage Extra Hot (VEH) bridge combo is pretty tough to beat. You'll get the GFS take of a PAF in the neck and and an EVH replica pickup in the bridge. It's a pretty versatile combo for all styles of rock and old school metal.

I want it with nikel cover, not used and I'm not from the US...

You can buy nickel covers for those pickups for about $15/each. Not hard to find at all.

Also, many sellers will ship to the EU or other international destinations if you ask them. You'll just have to pay whatever the uncharged is for post to your location. If you will just slow down a bit and be patient, you can get more great recommendations here and then search for some used Seymour Duncans. In the end you'll be happy that you took the extra time and you'll definitely have a better sounding guitar; vs buying the cheapest or one of the cheapest alternatives for pickups you can find.

I think a Custom with a PG or Jazz neck would be great for the bands you mentioned. The Duncan Distortions will be too hot for AC/DC type sounds especially. If you wanted a warmer sounding neck pickup, the APH II would be a great choice. You should be able to find all of these pickups used, in the $50-$60 range.

Good luck.

How can I trust the sellers? I prefer new because I dont want to take the risk...
True, that's a risk of buying used. I've taken my chances and have came out on top. Ultimately that's up to you.

Re: Changing the Humbuckers in Epiphone G-400

You want to play everything - so hard to argue with whatever the GFS classic PAF style is...

More about the amp. No one pup is gonna do Metallica, AC/DC, pixies, and Ventures....

Re: Changing the Humbuckers in Epiphone G-400

A set of Duncan 59's will come pretty close though...

Re: Changing the Humbuckers in Epiphone G-400

Well pilgrim...if your headed out into the territory you listed...a G-400 and a set of GFSs won't get ya thru...best be turnin' thet wagon around...head on back to the MP3 player and listen real hard to what you are up against...

These are the humbuckers I'm thinking about. What do you guys think?
1. Tonerider Alnico II Classics / Alnico VI Classics
2. Golden Age Parsons Street Overwound Humbuckers Alnico 2 / Alnico 5
3. GFS vintage 59 In the bridge and a crunchy pat in the neck

You don't seem to be aware that, not being in the US, you keep naming brands that ship from the US, forcing you to pay higher postal rates, VAT, customs and administrative charges, swith the expected outcome of you paying most probably the double of even more of the price of the budget p'ups you're shopping for.

If you don't tell where you're at, the advice given so far is pretty close to be useless.

So...?
