Charvel So Cal

Hey anybody ever try the modified Charvel So Cal from Sigler Music? I saw they are putting in a Seymour Duncan P rails system in the guitars. I like the "12" radius neck and the quarter sawn maple neck but I was wondering how they play and how good the Floyd Rose tone arm is on them. Anybody have one or a standard one?

Re: Charvel So Cal

Im not familiar with the exact one you speak of, but IIRC Sigler just takes guitars and changes out the pickups and such. So, it's probably a definate win if you like that pickup config. I'm with Jolly, I too love my charvels! The necks are butta... But, as with everything, its personal preference..

Re: Charvel So Cal

I have a couple strats, one a traditional tone strat and I have a USA Floyd Rose hum hum from year 2000. I love my strats but I am looking for a shred machine but some versatility. The Sigler guys will mod the Charvel SoCals from the factory or you can purchase the modded pick guard and do it yourself. I have a Duncan JB in the bridge of my Floyd Rose strat and I love the way it sounds with my amp. I am thinking the Hot Wound P rails should give me some more tone with the Charvel for some variation in sound. I am hoping the Charvel would be up to reasonably good quality even though its not U.S. made. I know the specs are good I am just nervous about the fit and finish stuff if its up to par and worth being modded. you guys are making me more confident on trying this.

Re: Charvel So Cal

I have no idea about the Sigler mod, all I can say I have the stock pro mod So Cal and I love it, it's fantastic, for my liking the best guitar I ever played. So I guess the Sigler should be fine too.

Although one they had in the shop had a bit low quality neck wood, so as with most guitars it's not guaranteed that a particular model will have the same quality standard as others. That's why I always try a guitar in person before buying it, or make sure I can send it back if that's not possible.

Quality isn't the best I've seen--also don't forget for that price you're not going to get the best woods out there--but there are lots worse, sometimes for twice the price or more (I don't want to name a particular popular brand here). It's pretty solid and for the price it's great. Overall this guitar is a steal, the neck is pure butter, it sounds great, it has original FR and Duncans, it's fantastic for shredding but is also versatile, and not very typical for a shred guitar, it has a fine strat snap. So overall, solid quality, fantastic design, great value.

You guys are making some good points. Maybe I should have them build it and set it up properly to make sure it comes with a quality set up. I am really tempted at this moment to pull the trigger

Re: Charvel So Cal

The USA Pro Mods were made on the Fender-side of the building in Corona, by Fender's builders, and trained by Charvel's builders to build them to Charvel's specs. The Japan-made Pro Mods were made by the guys who were taught by the guys that Grover Jackson trained in the 1980s to build the Charvel imports of the time, and later the all-hallowed Jackson Professional series neckthroughs.

I'm assuming the Mexico-made Pro Mods are made by the same guys who have been making Fender's MexiStrats for 20+ years, so if you like those, you should like these.

Re: Charvel So Cal

I've got an older US made Pro Mod. It's the nicest playing guitar I've ever had. I got a new pickguard and wired up a 5-way for some coil splits with the original pickups that were in the guitar, and it's lovely sounding.

ahhhhh you guys, time to do some checking around. I'm getting that weird impulse feeling to pull the trigger:omg:

There's a place selling the hh charvels in some candy colors for 600$. If you're interested or want to know more about it, go ahead and pm me

Re: Charvel So Cal

i think to get a Sigler modded pick guard I'm gunna have to do the So Cal model. Its just cheap enough to be a good club beater to play out with.

Re: Charvel So Cal

I don't know anything about the exact model you are asking about but I do have a charvel wildcard #4 (made in japan) model and ii absolutely love mine it is my favorite guitar of all. I love the neck, but I did notice that you spoke of the neck radius being 12". I don't know if the wildcard had a special neck or not but my wildcard has a 12 to 16 compound radius.

Re: Charvel So Cal

I am gunna call Sigler and ask them if I can order that So Cal and what they will do for me if or when I do. thing is, we all know some guitars are duds no matter whats on them. all the stars do not align right all the time and one guitar out of how many can be a dud. its kinda scary ordering without playing as some have mentioned here. I totally agree. I noticed a difference in Master built Fender strats costing $6500 a piece. Some wood just sounds better. Go figure right? either way its a butt clincher having never played the guitar and ordering on faith. I have always had a hard time trusting retailers. when you find an honest retailer you tend to hold on to them like a life preserver.

Re: Charvel So Cal

I have bought 3 Charvels sight unseen. They all play and sound fantastic.....even with a stock JB, which is not a favorite of mine by any means.
