Charvel thoughts?

Tonight I'm going to take a look at a white metal flake Charvel. The guy selling it has not idea what it is from what I can tell here is our conversation.

Yes I was calling about the Charvel in the paper? "were you the guy who called and left his number?" yeah that was me. "I was about to call you back, what can I do for you" I just wanted some general info on it "weeeellll it's a Charvel by Jackson on the back it says made in Ft. Worth TX, its white medal flake with a ummmm thing on it....a ummmm one second it's on the back " Floyd Rose?? "uhhh yeah that's it, on the back. It also has 4 pups, there're in sets of two right next to each other...hummmm" Humbuckers? "I guess, they are humbucking pups from eeeehhhh some guy.....sey Seymour Duncan, and there is a 4 position switch" (I hear him clicking in the background.) okkkk "it's uhhh white metal flake and in real good condition except for one place on the back where it's dented through the paint. I touched it up but it doesn't look quite the same....but I tried." Why are you selling it? "well I just don't play it much anymore I got this old flat top, I can play it and have played it a lot more the last few years" I'd like to see that guitar when can we get together? "when can you come out?"

Anyways that was the conversation what do you think? He said the guitar was 15 y/o but I don't think in 90 they were putting SD's in Charvels. I don't know...anyone know any kind of timeline? Also what about the Ft. Worth made deal?

Re: Charvel thoughts?

I believe from what I've heard the Fort Worth plate means Japanese made.

IIRC no guitars were made at Fort Worth as the USA Jackson/Charvel were originally made in or around San Dimas, and then later Ontario California, but I don't remember things too well these days. Zerb is is the brains on anything Jackson / Charvel related

There is NO SUCH THING as a Jackson or Charvel Plate that says "Made in USA".

They either show:
a San Dimas, CA PO Box Address (Plant was in Glendura, or current USA Charvels once again bear Box 245))
an Ontario, CA Street address (Old Ontario USA Plant)
a Fort Worth, TX PO Box address (ALL Bolt-on Imports between 1986 and 1991, tfhe USA Instruments of this and later Periods have Ontario plates)
or a Corona, CA Street Address (Current Production)

NONE of these say Where the guitar was made, all of them only show the address of the company (HQ). That they can be traced to USA or Jap Guitars is intentional, though ;)

As far as price goes: ANY Charvel Model series Bolt on should IMO go for under 350, any neckthru under 500 ;)

1. VEERY Good, my bookie is giving 100 to 1 odds :D

2. What to look for: Depends on what you´re expecting to find, I personally wouldn´t go through the effort for an Import ;)

That is kind of what I was thinking for #2. It's about an hour and a half drive to where he lives. If it isn't a real deal floyd I ,quite honestly, don't want it, the only redeeming thing to me is the pups, especially if I could get an old JB.

As far as the neckplate goes, for a 90 model (he said the thought it was about 15 y/o) the US model would say Ontario? The Reason I ask is because he said it said Made in.....upon doing my own research prior to this post I couldn't figure out if it said made in on any neck/guitar they had ever made.
