Charvel Wiring problems

I have a Charvel Model 6. It's currently off getting painted so I've been trying to research and figure out the wiring for this guitar. When I get the body back I'm putting a Dimebucker in the bridge, a Hot Rails in the Neck, and an APS-1 alnico II pro, staggered in Middle. My problem is that the charvel comes with a jackson preamp and three on/off toggle switches for the guitar (instead of a three/five-way selector switch) so I'm stuck and I can't find any schematics. The toggle switches are SPDT switches. Also the preamp is powered by a 9v battery. If any of you could help i'd appriciate it alot. Thanks.

Re: Charvel Wiring problems

Do your switches have 2 or 3 solder lugs?

Will you be using volume and tone controls? What value pots?

Re: Charvel Wiring problems

The Gain pot is 50K, the Volume and Tone pots are 250K. The switches have 3 solder lugs.

Re: Charvel Wiring problems

This would be how I would wire the front end before the preamp. The output of the volume control would feed into the preamp input and of course the pickups would need to be grounded as I did not show the other pickup wires.

I am not going to be much help with the preamp wiring other than to suggest you want to use a stereo output jack so it can control the battery power.

Re: Charvel Wiring problems

That's some spiffy drawing there, and a great help in as far as the switches go. If anyone has anything to add for the pre amp i'd be so grateful... I'll dance if I manage to get this to work. (Even if I did cheat by asking other people to help me :D)

Re: Charvel Wiring problems

I have the original Jackson Manual for that system. PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy of the pages for it.

Re: Charvel Wiring problems

If your goung with passives you will want to replace the 50k volume pot with a 250k or 500k pot

Re: Charvel Wiring problems

LJ King's diagram is not quite correct as the volume control is part of the system. Lemme see if I can post it...

Use the second diagram from the top.

There you go!

Not if he's going to use the Active Mid-Boost system. It's designed to work with passive pickups to make a low-impedance output.

No, he won´.....

The Jackson pickups ARE passive, any passive pickups will work just fine with (or without) the preamp.

If you change the pot values, you will screw over the preamps function as a buffer, in that case you may as well take it out completely....
