cheaper alternative for engl heads?

Re: cheaper alternative for engl heads?

Sounds cheap.. so tell me.. where could i find ENGL Fireball 100 watt for 350 quid.. ?
For sale groups on facebook usually. One was on there recently then he moved it to ebay after it didnt sell for £400 think it finally sold then.

Re: cheaper alternative for engl heads?

Yes but a Goldea Rex 6200 is ALOT cheaper than a ENGL, yeah i know that ENGL is alot more stable and better but still, Goldea seem to be a great amp for the money.. and it looks super cool as well.

Re: cheaper alternative for engl heads?

Hey if you can get a used Engl cheap..well that's what you want so that's great :)

As for the Goldea..I bought the smaller 15 watt lunchbox (Rex 3200...bought for $150) ..not the 100 watter and it's reliable/sounds fantastic..that I can vouch for :D

The Bugera 333XL has more gain than I would imagine anyone would need. I don't boost mine at all. It's got a meaty/round/wet character to it's gain that I love...amazing for anything from 80's/classic metal to doom & death metal. This is a couple of samples (short medley) from the CD my doom-death metal band just recorded. As far as the guitar goes ...It's just the 333XL panned L/R on 2 tracks. No pedals, no boost, No post-prod EQ'ing. So it's 100% amp tone in the mix. I did'nt use much gain either (about 11 o'clock) for the rhythm tracks (1 o'clock for the lead)...

Yes if its possible to find a cheap ENGL.. well that great, but also i like the stuff that isnt maybe so well known yet, if i can get a Goldea for a cheap price, thats what i am gona get, Bugera 333XL seems to be a great amp to, 3 independent channels with separate gain seem great, also the infinium technology, i am going to buy a few new amps so i´ll try to get a Goldea first, and then maybe a Bugera 333XL.. it all depends on what comes across....

Link sounds awesome.. what mic did u use for recordning ? SM57 ?

I see, i use a Røde Phantom mic when i record guitar, also at the edge of the dustcap, thinking about laborating with two mic soon, adding a SM57

Re: cheaper alternative for engl heads?

Nice...I'm not much of a recording guru, but two mics might well be better than one lol.. so best of luck with that. The AT MBK2 is pretty much a budget ($50) mic but it sounds great & did a good job for me. Hope you end up with the amp/amps your looking for. If Goldea do get back to you...your in luck :) I tried getting in touch with them for two months before they finally got back to me one day out of the blue ..so be prepared for stuff like that :lmao:

Things dont have to be expensive to be good, i used a super cheap mic a few years ago, cost me like 50 bucks or less and the results was perfect. Yeah, i would like them to replay to me NOW.. cus i need an amp now, i dont think i will wait that long, cus i really dont know when or if they are gona replay to me, but if they do in like 2 months and i allready bought a new amp.. i am sure i´ll get the cash to buy a Goldea..

Re: cheaper alternative for engl heads?

Back in time I ended up ****ting in the pants, listening to this one through some solid state Laney:

As a rec producer, I ended to be recorder an Engl Powerball for weeks before so I knew the response inside-outside. The similarity between the usable recorded sound and this preamp was stunning. After that I ended up replacing my Marshalls in my live rig with the AMT M1 preamp.
