Cheapest guitar you actually play

Re: Cheapest guitar you actually play

The Chinese LP (properly non-Gibson branded, not a fake) that Kac sold me years ago is perfectly acceptable as a Les Paul. Needed a new bridge and of course new pickups. I payed $180 shipped.

The Blazers I like and rate as high as any U.S. Fender go for $300-$350 on Ebay.

PRS SEs are ridiculously cheap used and perfectly fine.

My OLP Benji Madden guitar with the Dimebucker in it. It's a cheap beater but it does get the job done.

I used to have a Dean Vendetta XM... I bought it for around $80 a few years back. I gave it to my friend as a Christmas gift. This Christmas I put in some Duncan Designed active pickups (took them out of my Schecter C-1) in that guitar as I didn't feel like selling those on eBay... All, I can say is, good results!

It's not top of the line guitar, but for the price, it sure is pleasant to play. I know my friend is satisfied with it. :)

1995 Washburn USA MG 100 PRO found it in a Pawn Shop encrusted in grunge but intact. I paid $175 for her out the door and play her out regularly.

The Rat-O-Caster aka Strat Fink

Started as a used Squier Strat. I sold (or gave away) the neck, guard and other parts. Got a used boatneck Warmoth neck in trade from a friend of mine for some Tone Pros stuff I had kicking around. butnut did some of his magic on the body and shot some silver flake foloowed by some old skool Schwinn rattle can touch up paint. THis guitar has gone thru a few different iterations. Currently it has ESP locking tuners, top loaded hardtail bridge, GFS H90 knockoffs (their own knockoffs btw) and some fairly cool strap locks.

Don't really have too much into it and it plays all right. I just potted the pups and they lost some of the funk but they don't whistle anymore so a fair trade-off for the hip beater.

I do have one of the Melody Maker reissues that my son sort of took ownership of that was $349 plus a Hot Rails and a used set of Grovers that kicks all kinds of ass.

phat cat in the neck

Not my pic but, it's the same model...

I modded the **** out of it too. Sticker's gone, no sign of Dime on the headstock,Scalloped the last couple frets, got rid of the neck bucker, got rid of all of the controls and wired in a momentary killswitch. I'm generally not a fan of Dean's "lower end" guitars but, this one just kills for what it is.

Cheapest daily player that I've had is this Japanese RR3 PRO. Got it in a trade so I don't know what I actually had into it at the time. I sold it on eBay a couple years ago for $450 or so, It was a pretty solid guitar all around

Re: Cheapest guitar you actually play

cheapest guitar I play would by my MIM strat. It was given as a bar mitzvah gift so I'm not sure of the price but it's probably around $450. Originally it was made to look like a Hendrix strat, but I have since modified the living hell out of it. I have replaced the pickguard and all the electronics with a black pickguard, Hotrails bridge, a Super Distortion single in the middle, and a stock strat pup in the neck. I really like it.

That's REALLY cool! Did you do the paint yourself or did it come like that?

Do you ever feel the need for a bridge pickup?
