Choose the Strat Pickup Configuration!

Hi everyone.

I have an old Jackson strat-head neck with a maple fingerboard that I will be building a guitar around. I will be getting an alder strat body routed for the Am Std trem and either swimming pool or HSH pickup configuration. I will be using locking Schaller tuners and an LSR roller nut along with the Graphtech Ghost piezo system. I already have a traditional strat, so I was thinking of making this an SSH guitar or using some non- traditional pickups (no actives, though).

Feel free to recommend any combo and brand. I mostly play blues, funk, and some harder rock (not full on metal). I will be using regular 5 way switching for the mag pickups, along with the possibility of a push/pull pot if I use a bridge humbucker.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions, everybody. :burnout:

Re: Choose the Strat Pickup Configuration!

You know what I'm going to say: ANTIQUITIES!

If you want something non traditional I'd say: A5 Ant Surfers neck and middle and A2 Ant Texas Hot Custom bridge.

Or Duncan SSL-1 neck and middle and Fralin Steel Pole 43 bridge. The SP-43 sounds alot like a P-90!

Re: Choose the Strat Pickup Configuration!

the fralin steel pole 43 would be nontraditional enough and you can match it with some fralin hots or some duncan hots.

Re: Choose the Strat Pickup Configuration!

I suggest you to install a stag mag in the bridge so you can the option to have a traditional strat tone spliting the humbucker. The tone of this pickup it is great in the bridge... Since this pickup uses A2 magnet I recomend you to install alnico pro in the neck and midle positions to have full alnico II guitar.

Ok, ok, you wanted a non traditional strat... The check the new set released by seymour duncan. I think the "Everything Axe" it is the one for you. From the web page:

- Everything Axe™ Set – combines an SJBJ-1b JB Jr. for the bridge position with an SDBR-1n Duckbucker and SL59-1n Little ’59 for the middle and neck positions. This is an extremely versatile set that will coax everything from vintage to heavy tones from a Stratocaster. It works with all musical styles, and each of the pickups is hum canceling.

Take it as a suggestion and swap the bridge JB jr for another pickup like a full JB or something similar...

Re: Choose the Strat Pickup Configuration!

Suggestion:
if you go HSH i would say JB bridge, Cool Rails, Jazz
if you go HSS i would say JB bridge, and 2 custom Staggered

somethin different for ya to look at....
Rock On:smokin:
