Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

I am posting this because its very very hard to find anything about it on these forums, or at least pics of a successful attempt.

Anyways I took the Sh-11 Custom out of the bridge of my Schecter C1 Custom. Didn't really care for it so I swapped it for an invader for some higher output.

Took the cover off of my '59 because I figured I wouldn't be able to make this work. Ordered some more covers. Drilled the one from the '59 to work for the invader.

Stainless steel almost matches the color of the pickup cover, but its still off a little bit, but these screws were just the testers.

Went on Boltdepot.com and they want $27+ $10 shipping to ship me *20* 10-32 x1/2" chrome plated hex cap steel bolts so I got off that website quick!
Went to amazon, found the same thing in a 10 pack for $4.14 and got free shipping.

The chrome will (hopefully) be the same chrome as the pickup cover so it all blends in, then I can get my guitar back to all chrome instead of having my pickups naked and chrome rings around them:

Anyway here's my guitar:

And here's how the pickup will look except for the poles will blend in a little better:

I played it with the cover on the guitar and it sounds fine to me, even if the output is a little less, thats what amp settings are for:naughty:

How do you think that bad boy's gonna look on her?

Comments appreciated, I know its been done but maybe people will be able to find this and do it themselves if they want :)

That thing is gonna look manly as ****

It's like a Harley meets a Colt 45 meets a diesel truck

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

ME LIKE CHROME!!!!
Thanks guys :p
Figured I would get a bunch of "blah blah blah invaders weren't meant to have covers or else they would have put one on it and blah blah less output blah blah blah"

But hey if its my guitar I should do what I want, especially cause the guitar I think looks better chromed than with black naked pickups

Nah, man, we like different **** here.

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

Like I said in your first thread, that is one of the coolest ideas I've seen in a long time. Its going to look pretty BA when it's all back together!

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

I did this with a Detonator, used a gibson bridge spaced cover (Deto is trem spaced). I had trouble with squeal even after repotting the cover. I was gonna try some small plastic washers underneath the poles (between the poles and cover) to see if that got rid of it, but I never did it. If you have the same problem you might try the washer thing.

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

The more I look at that, the more I think Duncan should offer that as a standard production model. I think it would look good in gold or 2 tone as well. You did a really good job on that man! Very nice work!

Also I already had the cover installed on the guitar and had no problems with it, so maybe it was just the detonator?

My original thing before I got the C-1 Custom was to buy another Synyster Gates custom but this time in white (my black one had a horrible defect in the finish..)
Buy white invaders, swap the gold poles to the white ones and sell the black ones with the black poles from the white invaders.

Thus resulting in a white guitar with gold stripes and white pickups with gold poles. And making most of the money back selling the invaders as like new (black/black)

But I think this beats it and can't wait to get it covered back up! I miss my chrome.

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

Nah, it was coming from the cover, nothing wrong with the deto, other than being foreign made.

I play very loud and have the same problem with a lot of pickups. I was just throwing the plastic washer idea out there if you had the same problem. It does make a really cool looking pickup.

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

That is a brutal looking pickup. They could splatter it with blood put it on the next Saw movie poster. Well done.

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

A7x, that's pretty awesome.
I'm digging around Amazon trying to find those screws, but no luck.
Do you have a link to what you actually bought?

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

The ones shown in the picture are Stainless steel not magnetic at all so they will NOT work. My hardware store has some chrome stuff but no hex head bolts

Here is what I bought, chrome plated steel:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G4YEVK/ref=oss_product

apparently the prices goes up when they get to the last one cause I got 2x pack of 10 screws for $4.14 each....

There is only 1 pack of 10 left, I ordered 20 so if you order them and need 2 more or 3 for an extra I will mail them to you so you don't have to wait for them to restock. Pm me if you are gonna buy em and we will talk!

They should match the pickup cover better and they better be magnetic!

Re: Chrome Covered Invader with Chrome Hex Poles

I remember a thread from 2004 on here where Tattooed Carrot wanted a covered Invader. The thread went in a different direction as I pointed out the muddy nature of the Invader was the Hex Cap Screws and the more common hex poles would tighten it up. In the end I don't think he went with the covered Invader, but I will say it does look pretty niuce and if it sounds good covered then that's all that matters
