Classic 30 face lift

I have a tweed Classic 30, perfect gig amp for me. I bought a new extention cab to give me a bigger sound so I can face that speaker towards the other side of the stage. I was gonna get a matching tweed cab, until I saw they made a kool green one. Had a 'boutique' look about it, especially with the cane grille, so I got that cab and some extra Tolex and grille cloth. Looks much better than the tweed to me, even a bit more expensive.:6: I put an old Magnavox emblem on, it is still a PeaVEE.

Thanks guys. The 'real' Peavey extention cab is uber kool, but I doubt I'll find one. This one is a bit narrower, so stacking does'nt look good. But I just wanted to have 2 12" with one turned to spread the sound better, digging it so far.

i stack my C30 and extent cab mostly, but it is really fun to use them on some amp stands and spread them apart.... The amp stands i use tilt them back on a monitor angle.... works great!

That's pretty cool-my Blues Jr. is a bit smoky (bought it used for cheap, but still smoky :smack: ) and I've thought about retolexing it w/ new cloth-maybe burgundy/cane?

Did you find it difficult to do, not that you would?-oh wizard of mods:smokin:

Thanks guys. I also use a folding tilt stand to hear my amp better. The ext. cab will sit on the floor and face the drums/bass.
Tolex is a mutha to work with as it's very stiff. I have 30 years of upholstery under my belt so recovering an amp is'nt difficult...to me. My thumbs hurt for a few days from all the pulling of the Tolex. Contact cement is used, and you have to make 'perfect' cuts on corners and wrap overs, kinda tricky, I also use my staple gun for inside the cab and installing the grille cloth. It will be challenging for a first timer, but not impossible, just think before you cut. Good luck if ya wrap yer cab.

i have to recover a JCM 800 head..... i have the roll of Marshall Vinyl but have been holding off until i get the guts and some more skill to recover it.... What type of Contact Cememnt did you use?

I hear getting the corners cut right is the worst part

Same type for laminate (Formica)...the yellow snot stuff. A small roller brush works good, you don't wanna soak the Tolex. Most amps have the chrome corners which will hide an ugly corner cut. Exposed corners, like on most Fenders need a perfect cut. You have to pull and pinch the corner, the glue will grab. With a sharp sissors, carefull snip away (sometimes at a 45 degree angle) until you have just a small 'peak' of the cut seam. I mash this seam down and press it flat. A big needle or awl works to form a tight seal and crisp cut line. I suggest you try play with some scraps on a junk wood box or something first...contact cement really sticks! I recovered my Champ long ago, that has the tricky top corners and angled sides with tight cuts...

First I think I know where there might be an additional Magnavox V if you need it for x-cab. I took it off my XXX when I sold it.

My cousin uses a heat lamp to soften the tolex and other coverings when he makes his speaker cabs etc. Don't know if it is good or bad to use it but it seems to work well for him.

hehe, dude, I gave that V to ya. I have a few more, I'll mount it when I find some time. Got a gig in a few hours. Got got my black Areodyne Strat bod and did a quick assembly last night. I just ordered that wierd neck plate for the shaved heel..it's lookin' killer so far. Gonna sell the relic'd JV bod soon.
