Classic 30 reverb problem...

When I turn the reverb past 4-5 on my Classic 30 I get a loud squeeling noise, and as I turn it higher it gets higher pitched. I called the store I bought it from and they said that a lot of Peavey's get wired wrong on the reverb hence you can't really crank the reverb. Since it was the last tweed amp they had I decided to just deal with it. But now I'm asking...is this true, and is their anyway to fix it?

(P.S. Other than that this amp is amazing!)

Yes, I knew there would be problems with those d*** peavey's... :laugh2:

Sorry I'm just a Fender guy who used to play primarily peavey's and didn't enjoy them at all. I know almost every company has good and bad stuff... Sorry to hear about the amp, and Sorry that I don't have a solution for your problem.

Re: Classic 30 reverb problem...

The simple solution is to call Peavey and ask, as I remember the reverb units are opamp driven in those (actually works better than the tube driven) even thogh the amp is tube. You can try rerouting the reverb tanks lines (make sure you know what line goes where, don't mix them up) space permitting as that sometimes helps. Call Peavey and see what they recommend first though.
I hadn't heard that they were having QC issues along those lines. Other than that I couldn't guess off hand. If you hit blueguitar.org there should be a couple of schematics on the classic 30s (ignoring the marked mods) if you want to check the routing of the circuit (I would have your local tech do it, as it's probaby under warranty anyway). Microphonic tubes would normally exhibit such behavior, it's possible that the added signal (when the reverb is turned up) is aggravating a microphonic tube down the line somewhere.
