Clips done with Duncan Distortion SH-6 Bridge!

Re: Clips done with Duncan Distortion SH-6 Bridge!

I'm considering getting a DD for the bridge, or maybe even a set of them. These clips are convincing me to get them; they're great.

I think that Duncan Distortion is an excellent pickup. Sure its a high output pickup, but it seems to work very well with highgain. When I installed it in my Lespaul, I right away noticed the tone getting a bit more tighter, "fatter" and has more chug to it. The highend increased a bit more, but I like that.

Definitly an excellent pickup.

Very nice! It's all bridge DD?
Thanks dude.. yeah, all you hear is the Duncan Distortion in there, except the "Lead" clip, I just couldnt resist switching to the neck pickup in that fast lead.

Also, the fast solo part on the Ozzy tune when it goes to the high notes, I switched to the Neck pickup also. But other wise, everything is recorded heavy and dry was recorded with the DD.

Hey, threadstarter, how does the Distortion handle power chords? Is it bassy or bright?

hey Coma,
To me, it sounds just perfect. Not too bassy and not too bright. Then again, it depends on how you setup your amp. If you do power chords, I find them to be thick sounding and if you do palm mutes on F# (on the low E), it sounds thick and tight. It cuts through very well.

Hope that helps

What was used for those clean solos? Let me guess, the Jazz neck??

Clean solos? I dont have any Duncan pickup other then the Duncan Distortion Bridge. What ever you hear in those clips is done with the Duncan Distortion bridge SH-6. The only time I switched to the Neck pickup (stock Epiphone Pickup) is when I did that "Lead" clip around the time 0:10 - 0:16 seconds in the clip.

Other wise, not sure which exactly Clean Solos your talking about.

Thanks

Well, I didn't mean clean in like acoustic, but they are clean/articulate, whatever, you know what I mean?

Oh.. You mean the clean tones clips? If so, those were also done with the Duncan Distortion bridge. Ofcourse one was without and one was with chorus. The chorus is from the ADA MP-1 it self.

Hopefully that answers your question. :)

Re: Clips done with Duncan Distortion SH-6 Bridge!

Yeah, thanks for your answer, pretty amazing that it's the same pickup.

Oh i agree.. i was really impressed my self of how the cleans are on the Duncan Distortion. keep in mind that this pickup will not please the picky clean sound guys. So if your playing acoustics/clean tone songs with your electric, the duncan Distortion is a bad choice. But if your playing heavy metal and like a tight tone, this pickup is a good choice.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Jeff :).. Glad you enjoyed the clips. I see that Jake E Lee is one of your favorite guitarists.. so there ya go. Bark at the Moon was originally done by Jake E Lee, and I personally find the DD works really good for Ozzy type stuff.

Good luck!

Re: Clips done with Duncan Distortion SH-6 Bridge!

DOM,

Jake is def a big influence...my fave Ozzy sideman by far. However his work with Badlands is what really influenced me as far as actual playing goes, and then moreso as a rhythm player than a lead player (not that I don't go ape-poopy over his lead playing either :D). Always loved everything about his playing..tone, style, his use of dynamics, etc.

That DD sounds great for slight crunch, leads or supa-high gain. As much as I love to *listen* to vintage Les Paul sounds with PAF style pups, when *I'm* playing with any level of gain more than say 70's era Thin Lizzy, they bore me, to be frank...too compressed or "sweet" for leads, not aggressive or crunchy enough for power chords/riffs...too "round". Others sound phenomenal using them, but they never sound "right" when I do.

Thanks again. Great stuff :)

Re: Clips done with Duncan Distortion SH-6 Bridge!

Hey man. That were great clips. Im thinking of putting either the Duncan Custom or Duncan Distortion in the bridge of my Les Paul next to my Alnico Pro II in the neck and i have to say after hearing those clips and reading peoples opinions on the Duncan Distortion im swaying towards that chioce. Certainly sounds a great PU indeed. :D

Re: Clips done with Duncan Distortion SH-6 Bridge!

Cool clips! I dig the very '80s sound you're gettin' there! I too sport an SH-6 in my Schecter and use it for almost ALL of my recordings. It's a great lead pickup too, which is what I primarily use it for; it just seems to have a very sustaining cut and just the right amount of singing quality to it. Hooray for more people bringing justice to this pickup!
