Jeff: mahogany body with an all maple neck is one of my favorite combos. my tangerine Clone is the same but with a thicker wider neck and a different single hum. as for the FRED/Hot Rails setup, i haven't spent much time with it yet since the guitar still needs to go in for the usual fret level and dress like all the clones get. if for some reason i don't like the fred i'll toss in a duncan of some sorts. C5 perhaps?? not sure yet.

again, thanks everyone and it's cool to see there are more guys out there with big enough balls to play a pink guitar hehe.

Not my kind of guitar but for some reason it appeals to me... then again I think my taste is changing.

nice piece dude!
Tell me what you think of the Mahogany body maple neck combo. I have built a USACG one piece H.Mahogany body and one piece maple neck guitar. sounds great but i wanted a bit more highs in it. probably should of used a maple cap. Dont get me wrong the guitar still sounds great, it just needed more highs to balance out. i think that my use of a Callaham vintage trem adds too much to the thickness. i think maybe a floyd would be a better match for the specific woods.

tell me your thoughts on this.

since you didnt get my PM again i just wanted to ask you if you think that an Alder body is more the way to go for that Van Halen sound. like i said the Guitar i built sounds really great but i wanted a bit more highs. the Mahogany filters them out.
i was thinking to start my second project and order a one Piece Alder body ( i totally believe in one piece bodies by the way) from USACG and a one piece maple neck, to get more of a Halen sweet tone without being too shrill. What do you think? is alder the way to go??
i have had this conversation with many people and the people whos opinion i respect said alder is the way to go. Basswood is a bit too lame for me sound wise. ash is too snappy and scooped. mahogany is about right but looses too many highs and is too thick sometimes.

Not a fan of pink but even from those pics I can see it's a really deep, rich, magenta-ish color. Looks good. Nice addition to your lineup.

Beautiful axe, Mike. I'd have probably gone with an ebony fingerboard, but seeing it completed, maple doesn't look bad at all. That shade of pink is PERFECT. :headbang:

I'm 50/50 on it right now. As usual, Mike, it seems that you've put together another first-class piece of work. The guitar has the simple elegance that all your clones seem to have. On the other hand, even as big of an 80s fan I am, I'm not a fan of pink guitars. Maybe some guys can pull it off, but I think I'd begin to suffer from vaginitis if I played a pink guitar, wore spandex, and used a bottle of aquanet daily.

I think the Brobucker would work well in that wood combo, but may not match well outputwise with the HR...maybe a SH5 (regular) Custom?

For DiMarzio a SuperD should work nice and match up well with the Hot Rails...that sucker will be super thick and punchy with that combo. Or an Airzone.
