Wild guitar!

I'm confused....these are clones of charvels or real ones that are clones of earlier models or ones rockers used to use? Where do they come from?

So you buy guitars, fix them up or have them properly set-up, keep some, and sell others? That doesn't sound like it would be profitable, but...is it? Perhaps that's not the point.

Discuss.

he's having these custom made, inspired by guitars of the 80's, mostly Charvel inspired

Re: Clone Guitars #004…Major 80’s flashback…

yeah very true, if you want to get technical lol. i do buy the raw bodies and necks then i go from there, the paint is also outsourced as is the fret level/dress on each of them. the finish sanding on necks and bodies, the fingerboard rolling, sometimes slight reshaping of the neck, the neck finish, the hardware install, the electronics install etc etc (overall assembly) is done by me. since i don't own a CNC machine of my own it makes life easier/faster to have someone else make the bodies and necks. i have all the tools to build the bodies and necks and know how...however it would take much longer doing it by hand and it's not worth the effort to be honest.

reminds me of the movie Chasing Amy..."you're a tracer" LOL

Re: Clone Guitars #004…Major 80’s flashback…

sorry about that Xssive..... i knew they were kit guitars made from customized factory machined parts... that's what i meant by made for you. i have made guitars from lumber before and i stopped because of the finnishing hassels... Wish i could find someone in my area to finnish my homemade bodies and necks... i hate finnishing work... it's messy, stinky and a real pain with out a spray shop...

that's cool, it's not for everyone...hence the warning in my first post. it's ok that you're wrong, i don't mind...i'm just curious why you bothered to take the time to post a reply, a real short one at that, that was 100% negative? trying to get the ol' post count up or something??

IMO this axe needs a floyd for versatility. With this pickup combo, i don't think you will be doing classic blues. This axe screams Satriani, Van halen and metal. So floyd is essential. end of discussion.

Re: Clone Guitars #004…Major 80’s flashback…

I like Charvels (or clones there of) with or without floyds. It doesn't matter that much. Most of the strat heads originally came with vintage style non-locking trems, but a good many got aftermarket Floyds installed.

The "correct" vintage trem for strat head Chavels isn't the same as a vintage Fender. The saddles were solid extruded brass, and they had large brass blocks, except for Holdsworth's guitars. Usual colors were black or gold. It's much easier to do a Strat head clone with a Floyd.

Nice guitar, I like it tons.:smokin:

Re: Clone Guitars #004…Major 80’s flashback…

Most factory Floyd equipped Charvels had the pointy Jackson headstocks, the strathead Charvels were usually the vintage trem.

Regardless, my next project is a double hum Floyd euipeed Korina bodied Charvel ;)

Watching a band last night use strats with floyds took me back to the 80's... was amazing!

Mike I have question for ya, i have 1989 Kramer Floyed Rose II totally pink but you have inspierd me to put on a strat maple neck on it, but on your guitar I see that it's not a fender neck but some other manufacturer, is there a reason for that ? like in my case is there a chance that a strat neck won't fit ? Thanks dude.

I think I can answer that. Original Fender necks, if you can get them from a dealer, will cost $350-$450, and you can only really get one if there;s a defect in the original neck and Fender is replacing it.

On the other hand, Warmoth, USA Custom, and Musikraft will build you a neck totally to your specs- fretwire size, fretboard radius, back profile, neck and fingerboard wood, double action truss rod, starting at around $160. These three companies supply neck and bodies for other manufacturers as well, like Pensa Suhr, Yamaha.

As far as fitting your Kramer, check the width of the neck pocket- if it's 2 3/16", then it's a standard Fender spec neck pocket and any of the above mentioned three companies will fit. If it's 2 1/4", then Musikraft is the only one that offers a neck with that width as an option.
