C'mon..yor first tube amp?

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

a Lafayette/Univox copy of a tweed Super; it had P10R's in it. My grampa found it at the county dump and we rebuilt it. My first really good amp was a BF Deluxe Reverb (50$ in 1974).

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

Acoustic T60. If you don't know, it was a shameless copy of a Mesa Boogie MkII. I gave it away to a friend that liked it.

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

The first tube amp I ever actually played on was a Bandmaster Reverb that my uncle had tucked away in his basement (and I've been collecting them ever since).

The first I ever owned? EVH 5150. I'd love to have that amp back, but it blew up and I sold it for a big loss...hope somebody fixed it up.

Or that it caught on fire and burned to ashes. If you can't have it, noboby can!

my first tube amp... i bought 2 the same day in 1995... a 5150 half stack and a Peavey Classic 50 head...

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

An original 1965 Deluxe Reverb...paid $50.00 back in 1985.

I haven't been totally satisfied with an amp since I sold it ....that is until I got my Blue Angel a few weeks ago. :D

meh. :(

I still have my Carvin 60. I keep it in my friends shop because he needs an amp with reverb there. I don't feel this was reliable enough for me to gig with. Last time I tried using it it started to make some real nasty noise when it got warmed up. At low volumes its OK once it gets hot its noisy and I had just had it serviced too.

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

Sunn with a 1-15" JBL speaker and a JBL horn with a massive driver on it.

Cannot remember the model # though. It was a good clean amp.

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

My first tube amp was the Sunn Enforcer Head, with some random 412 cab I picked up somewhere on the recycler.
Nice and loud, and sounded awful!

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

I can't remember which I bought first, but they were within months of each other. A Peavey 5150 combo and a Pignose GV40 combo. Now they're both gone.

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

Mine was an Ampeg/Lee Jackson VL-1002 half-stack that I sold about a year ago:

The guy who bought it was really happy to get it and I was glad to sell it so that I could buy a new Charvel. So it was a win-win situation.

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

My first tube amp was a Peavey Triple XXX head with an EarCandy Buzzbomb 2x12 cab. They replaced a Randall RG100SC combo.

A few weeks ago I sold my Triple XXX and scored a Mesa Mark IV short head. Couldn't be happier :D

Late 70's fender champ. Wish I still had it....Bought it for 80 bucks at a flea market when I was 16 or so. Did not realize at the time that you dont need tons of distortion to sound good. Wish I would have had that thinking when I bought my peavey vk112!

Re: C'mon..yor first tube amp?

First one was a Carvin Nomad, which I learned a bit about amps and such on. Doing hasserl mods taught me quite a bit. I sold that and got a DeVille 410, then sold that and got my AC30 which is currently my workhorse. I also got a Valve Junior along the way.
