Hey folks,
I've got a Vintage 30 (England) speaker in my Screamer combo but I don't like the sound when it's cranked..I lowered the highs and it's ok sounding..but I need more beef in the tone, mainly playing solos.
Scott Henderson mentions on his site that he detests the V-30 and his arguments (kinda double note sound when it's over a certain amount of volume) appeared sometimes also here. I know that I should use my ears but the stuff he mentioned is also my point of view.
I consider to buy a Classic Lead 80 speaker and test it with the Screamer, if it sounds better, I sell the Vintage 30.
But I could save some money and buy a cool 2x12 cab..probably a mix of the Classic Lead and Greenbacks, if it's possible(?) and leave the V30 speaker in the combo alone.
I'm sure that a cab has more "oomph" and balls but I'm really eager to see how much difference a new speaker will make.
I'm also aware of the fact that in a band you have a complete different game to play and the upper-mids bump of the V-30 could be gold worthy..but I'll hear it then in the next band rehearsal, perhaps my concern will disappear then and I keep the V-30
What are your experiences?
