Combo to Cab

I have a combo amp i want to plug into a cabinet as I can't yet afford a head. The combo and cabinet have the same impedance (8ohm) and I was thinking of plugging a speaker cable into the cab from the speaker defeating headphone jack on my amp. Could this work?

Re: Combo to Cab

If you have a matching 8 Ohm out on your combo it will work.

A headphone jack is not meant for this.

Re: Combo to Cab

Plus if you plug it into the headphone jack there will be hardly any sound - the headphone jack only puts out enough electricity for the speakers in headphones, so you'll have to get some duct tape and attach the cab to your head to hear it...

If it's a combo, there should be a spot where the speaker plugs into the amp part of the combo - find that, unplug the speaker in the combo, plug the cab in and you now have sound coming out of the cab instead of the combo speaker.

the internal speaker may be hard wired, if thats the case you just need to make a jack. it can work no matter what, itll just be easier to do if there is a real speaker jack like jimijames is talking about
