Companies going above and beyond

Everybody gripes when they buy something that sucks. What about when you've been treated extremely well?

Earlier this year, I bought an inexpensive Planet Waves cradle strap for my banjo. It was the cheapest option they offered, and I wasn't super impressed with the quality. While installing it, I tore the end of the strap off (installing a cradle strap involves threading the skinny end of the strap under the brackets around the edge of the banjo). I contacted PW, mentioned my concerns and asked if they had a heavier duty strap they recommended. The response was "Here's a link to all of our banjo straps. Send me your address and I'll send you whichever you'd like."

I said I would be happy to pay the difference, but was told not to worry about it, just send back the old strap so they could see if there was a QC issue.

Re: Companies going above and beyond

That is awesome! I have one Planet Waves strap, never had any issues with it.

Re: Companies going above and beyond

The replacement they sent is killer, and I should've just bought it in the first place. I have a ton of other PW stuff, and have bought enough D'Addario strings to wrap around the earth several times.

Anybody have another company deserving a shout out?

Re: Companies going above and beyond

Wampler pedals, I have purchased 5 of them in the last year, the build quality is fantastic, sound is always what I'm looking for, just a happy customer!

Re: Companies going above and beyond

Carvin hooked me up w/some speaker cables a while back.
I'd ordered a coupla 6 footers for my guitar rig & they sent 2 20'ers.
I notified them, they just said to keep 'em...

Re: Companies going above and beyond

D'Addario is great company. My brother is a D'Addario artist, they treat him quite well too.

I'm also a Wampler fanboy, which do you have? (Stratman has them all here)

I have a Pinnacle purchased second-hand, the stomp Switch failed and they replaced it at no charge, turning it in less than a week.

Great Dealings with WD Music. I bought a Strat trem block form them. Much later went to install it, and the normal US Fender Vintage Strat size bridge plate screws I had didn't fit. They sent me another block, and told me not to bother to send the one I had back.

This is a great thread, we really should give props to the good guys.

I also am having a good report 'Wudtone'. had to contact them a couple times, but they did come through, all the way from the UK, to send a shim I had lost for one of their unique tremolos for Strat- I had to pay (also they required an original order number- KEEP THOSE RECIEPTS!)but very happy to have not been blown off and to be able to get the replacement part for a quite expensive unit .

Re: Companies going above and beyond

I've gotten great service from Fender the few times I've called them. One time I was trying to buy an extra tremolo arm with an aged white tip for a MIM Strat. Apparently they were only available with white tips, not aged white. The guy who helped me on the phone came up with one and sent it to me at no charge.

Another time I called them on a Saturday morning about setup specs for an EVH guitar. Somebody answered, which I was not expecting.

Elderly inspects and sets up guitars before sale and shipping and are accurate and honest about condition and any issues, if there are any.

Re: Companies going above and beyond

Years ago, I had a problem with one of the original Dunlop lever capos, and sent a letter and the capo back to them. Jim HIMSELF called me and apologized, and sent me a box of stuff. Great service, and really generous. And similar service from D'Addario, Martin and Mesa.

I'd say both Avatar (Dave) and VFE (Peter) deserve a shout-out in this Excellent Customer Service thread.
These guys never leave you hanging. Both are extremely prompt, honest, and concise with orders and info request.
It's just so relaxing to know without doubt that there is a dedicated pro on the other end that cares as much about customer service as they do sales.

Re: Companies going above and beyond

Off the top of my head the following have gone above and beyond for me:

Radial
Fender
Dunlop
Tubestore
Antique Electronic Supply

Re: Companies going above and beyond

I'm totally impressed with Callaham after market guitar parts. Callaham Guitars I've called several times with questions and talked to Bill himself. The parts are first rate and well worth the money spent for them. If you're a Bigsby fan, he has some innovative upgrade parts for them.

Re: Companies going above and beyond

I love hearing a huge company like Fender mentioned repeatedly. They're at a level where you wouldn't expect them to give a crap, but they obviously do.

Re: Companies going above and beyond

I bought a used TC Electronic Hall of Fame Reverb on ebay and it ended up not working. Now I am an Electronics Technician and I repair pedals all the time but these newer pedals are basically throw aways when broken because its not worth the labor to fix. So I called them up and they sent me a new replacement even though I didn't purchase it new through them or a dealer. I was really happy with the customer service they provided me.

Re: Companies going above and beyond

Planet Waves does have an awesome respect for their clients.

I once had a Trim Lok tuner crapping out (a bit of string got stuck inside the locking mechanism). After contacting the company to try and figure out how to remove it, in return they asked for my address (company is US based, I'm in Portugal, Europe), and informed me they would be sending a NEW SET of tuners free of charge and shipping.

From then on, all my tuners and straps are PW.
