I've always defended Gibson QC, now I got burned - Twice

Re: I've always defended Gibson QC, now I got burned - Twice

Sounds like a matter of prinicple to me.

Gibson will never get another cent of my hard earned money. :smoker:

Re: I've always defended Gibson QC, now I got burned - Twice

What kinda stuff is Gibson smoking ? They are gonna put themselves outta business. It's ridiculous how they are treating former retailers. I can't believe how they won't allow them to post actual guitar pics. errrrrrrrrrrr.....

I have to actually play a guitar before I'll plank down the cash, esp on a $2000 Gibson standard. Order on faith from Mus Friend ? I don't think so.

Gibson cranks out a ton of guitars. THey're percentage of crappy ones is probably the same percentage that Hamer and Heritage, et. al. have.

I see what you're saying here, but I gotta disagree, especially when it comes to Hamer. I understand that Hamer is a much smaller company, and that they complete only three guitars per day, compared to thirty or more for Gibson. The difference is that in the rare case that a Hamer turns out poorly, it never leaves the factory. I check out the Hamer forum on a regular basis, and I've never heard of a new Hamer having these problems. Some of those guys own ten or more of them, and they routinely buy them without playing them first because they are so consistent. I challenge anyone to go into their local Hamer dealer and find one that has the kind of flaws that we're used to seeing from Gibson.

When you find a good one, Gibsons are hard to beat. But it's getting harder and harder to do that, and I think a lot of us simply don't have enough faith in Gibson to bother trying anymore.

This is a fact.

Re: I've always defended Gibson QC, now I got burned - Twice

I only read the first and last page of this thread, so I hope I'm not repeating something here, but I've heard from a former Gibson dealer that to continue to be a Gibson dealer they had to agree to buy on the spot, $90,000 worth of Gibson products and had to agree that Gibson's would hold 40% of the stores wall space. Mom and pop deales can't do this kind of a thing. Note that I said 'former Gibson dealer.'

Re: I've always defended Gibson QC, now I got burned - Twice

that is such crap!!! man i feel sorry for dealers now!!! what kind of person is in charge of Gibson nowadays?!?!?!?! :yell: :yell: :yell:

Re: I've always defended Gibson QC, now I got burned - Twice

People will still buy Gibsons.

People still buy McDonalds, despite all their horror stories.

However, if I bought a Gibson and it turned out to be crap, I wouldn't buy another just because they're Gibson.

Re: I've always defended Gibson QC, now I got burned - Twice

So I talked to one of the guys at our oldest and most respectd local shops. They are no longer an official dealer. The buy in he said was over 100 grand for them.

One of the Arkansas Chain Stores (Sigler Music) has to buy 80 grand per store. The guy I talked to said they are hoping that Gibson will snap out of it mid year.

If I were a dealer, I'd tell Gibson to shove it up their wazoo.

no, its because Henry's business practices have been compared both jokingly and seriously to Hitler.

First of all I'm not backing Gibson because I am still in awe of what they're doing to their company, truly unbelievable.

I think a major sticking point here is the fact that a Gibson can cost 1.5-3 times an American Fender. While $900 is a lot of money, $2500 is a ton more, and I would expect to get what I paid for it - a guitar worth the extra $1600.
this isn't very accurate because you are taking Fender's price for the lowest end of MIA standard guitars and the price of a custom shop les paul like a 58 reissue. To be accurate you would have to compare the 58 to one of fenders custom shop guitars...see what I mean?

Also a lot of people are saying to play before you buy and such. That is just not an option for me because I have one dealer within a very far distance of me that has gibsons, and they're price for the guitar I was looking at was $500 more than I could get one for new from a small dealer who has dropped gibson.

I'm with Scott on the idea that if you want a "les paul" you need a les paul. A hamer is not a les paul...a very very nice guitar, but not a les paul.

I am disgusted by what kind of stuff can come out of gibson's production lines, but that doesn't apply to the custom shop. Its almost like it should be a different brand because they really are that much different. And hell, I lucked out a got a KICK ASS custom shop historic for less than a regular production les paul that everyone is pissed over.

He has a Polish surname (Juszkiewicz), and I have no idea whether or not he's Jewish. I made the picture myself in photoshop as a heckle regarding his Gestapo-like business tactics in how he runs Gibson and nothing else. Any Jewish reference or inference is ill perceived.
