Compensated claw?

Re: Compensated claw?

I record everything that I change about my guitars and basses. I have a blind test system for the clips where I categorize them by "this is good, this isn't" in 4 sections.

About half of the changes that felt like a sound improvement when playing actually make it through the blind test. If you think about it, that's actually pretty good. But it's still only half.

What's everyone opinion on how this would work with a flush mount Floyd?

Re: Compensated claw?

Though I didn't read the whole the thread, I will add my 1.5 cents. Sorry if somebody else said it first.

I can see the different spring tensions and lengths sort of working with/against each other to locate the inertia block a little more accurately.
I guess it is similar to angling the outer springs in a 3 spring setup.

Re: Compensated claw?

Last year, I wrote on this forum that I thought that KGC brass components were a bunch of BS.

I was questioned by several people including Rick (KGC), so I purchased a KGC brass block and found that KGC is telling the truth!

So, then I purchased the original brass claw to see if that also made any difference, again - I was impressed.

Now I have purchased a compensated claw and brass saddles and will see how they work out and let you all (Including Rick - KGC) how well they actually work.

Callaham - I have their bridge assembly and also SuperVee’s. There is difference in tone and sustain in these two products, which are different in term of quality and sound, yet each/both are better than Gotoh and Fender.

Unless anyone tried these products, you need to keep as a wise man once said - your mouth closed (e.g. put-up or shut-up).

Still waiting on mine. Rick said he mailed it last week.

I've been angling the claw on my Strat for a while now and for the subtle way I play and for what I want from a Strat vibrato Carl Verheyen's method works beautifully.

I fitted one along with a brass block to my G&L Legacy a few months back and it was so easy to set up. Along with Raw Vintage springs the guitar stays in tune so much better, the trem is super smooth and the block adds sustain for sure. I have sent Rick several emails since installing it to order more but for some reason I'm not getting any return emails? I hope all is well for him because he makes some excellent upgrades.

Re: Compensated claw?

I have restrung my Strat several times since this topic was brought up. I've changed gauges (11s to 10s to 9s), tunings (Eb to E) and bridge position (3 half-step pull-up on G, vibrato, decked, back to 3 half-step pull up) as well as swapped springs (American standard to Raw Vintage).

I never had an issue with setting up the 1/2 step E, full step B, step and a half G that is outlined in this thread with either a straight claw or angled claw. (It's currently straight) I will say that swapping to Raw Vintage spring substantially improved the feel of the Trem arm. It changed the tone slightly, but i wouldnt be crushed if I went back from a tonal
standpoint.

I will leave the debate to others regarding the claw, but I see no immediate reason for me to buy one other than the fact that it looks really awesome (and I do leave the spring cover off).
