The SLO Pedal sounds amazing into the front ends of my Hiwatt and Reeves Custom 100's, and Matamp GT150. Ymmv

My MXR 5150 OD sounds way better in to the front of a clean amp than it does in to the effects return. It's not designed to go in to the effects return.

I believe it. I think Soldano tweaked the SLO Pedal voicing very painstakingly to work well in both scenarios, into a clean amp or the FX return. I only have experience running it out front, but the clips I heard with it plugged into an FX return were quite good. It had a hair more clarity/less gain, but not so much it sounded anemic, harsh, or too polite.
