Coolest Looking Amplifiers?

Re: Coolest Looking Amplifiers?

Those are just dummies. It's pretty common for those walls of stacks to be just stage props.

That doesn't stop them from being cool-looking, though.

I've seen interviews with Yngwie Malmsteen where he said that he puts as many cabs as will fit on the stage. I'm pretty sure he also said that he only actually plays through 4 of each though.

That's easy... 1987 Marshall Silver Jubilee, of course!

The Wiggy looked great, but sounded terrible.

Never tried one of these, but I love the atomic space age look..

Re: Coolest Looking Amplifiers?

Tried to find one of my Line 6, but I like the way my Randall looks just fine. Thanks again 80'sMetal.

Love the no-frills appearance of the Ampeg GVT15. The tones are spectacular!

I've got the combo version of it, it's an excellent little 5 watter for bedroom playing. It's got a volume, bass, treble, a 5w/2.5w switch, and a on/standby/off switch. It's a great amp because instead of paying for a whole bunch of controls and channels, you pay for quality components. I always set it to half power, almost max the volume, and use my guitar as the gain control. Truly versatile for only having little more than a single channel and a 2-band EQ.

You're referring to the SE Class A GVT5... I have one of those as well. Excellent little amp! My favorite low-watt pedal platform amplifier for sure.

Re: Coolest Looking Amplifiers?

For me, the coolest looking amp is my '96 Marshall JTM45RI after doing a few soldering sessions; completely changing it into a '68 50 watter. :smoker:

^ What's that SG? Not sure if I like the colour, but looks great neverthless.

Are the horns "offset", or is the angle and left-handedness just making it look like they are?

Re: Coolest Looking Amplifiers?

I'm suprised that no one has really mentioned the Silver Face Fenders. Back in the '70s I played an outdoor festival, using a pair of SF Dual Showman Reverb amps daisy-chained together with four 215 JBL SF cabs. What a glorious sound! Definitely felt my bellbottoms blowing in the breeze! Love the Super Six and Quad Reverb amps from this era.

And the Thomas Organ VOX amps....the Super Beatle stacks were really impressive, at least in their looks. And the built-in racks! Never enjoyed playing them, though...tinny sounding.

And SUNN built some pretty amps too. My SS Solos II 212 combo of the early '70s is a contemporary of the SF Twin Reverb and the Ampeg VT-22, and I think it is the prettiest of the bunch. And I briefly owned an Acoustic Control 150 head with the 610 cab. Killer tone, loud as hell, but a bit noisy. PITA to move around, but really pretty.

I love the Mesas though. Best amps I've ever used.

That's a 2008 Gibson Custom Shop '61 LP/SG Custom reissue in sparkle green.

The original SGs had a lot more shapely beveling going on; hence the look.

If you examine SGs throughout the years you'll see major differences...

Re: Coolest Looking Amplifiers?

Some of these look like televisions and radios which of course is pretty cool. Car get much cooler than the classic dual rectifier. It's literally metal, so you know what you're getting!
