Counterfeit Alert - Reverb!

Instant giveaway.

AFAIK all humbuckers with 4-core plus bare wires on SD pickups cone with black PVC sheathing.

Well, at least the half dozen or so I've bought in the last 12 months did.

Did ya report them?

I just did suggest others do also. They tried give them that even had the 3 hole Trembucker base plate. But those leads are a dead give away unless Duncan has changed the leads in the last month or so. When you look hard nothing looks really right about that set.

I have never seen a two conductor trembucker. Gibson spaced guitars don't often have F-spaced bridges and having a traditional two conductor pickup would be of no advantage for a strat style guitar.

Pretty much everything set me off about these, but I've been eyeing these counterfeits for a few years now.

The most obvious:
  • Completely smooth slug poles (real SD slugs have a very soft "bullseye" casting pattern...not perfectly smooth nor super obvious)
  • "Volcano" type deformations to plastic around slug poles
  • Poor quality logo font/print on top of bobbins
  • Silver baseplate mounting screws
  • Incorrect identification label (size/font)
  • Unusually short, non-self-tapping screw poles with overly bulbous heads
  • Incorrectly bent mounting tabs on the non-TB baseplate with overly rounded corners
  • Oversized mounting screw holes (many counterfeits use larger-than-standard height adjustment screws)
  • General "cheap" appearance, including the intensity of the printing, color of bobbins, brightness of the chrome plating on pole pieces, etc.
Also, "2016" seems to be a common "production date" on these more believable counterfeit pickups, even though they were likely manufactured this year.

By the way, his listing WAS showing as "suspended", but it appears to be active again...ugh!

Usually what happens is that someone buys them first, then comes here to post in our 'Real Seymour Duncan' thread.

Also there's that square hole on the top of the bobbin top's treble side. I think they are all round on a real SD, right?
