Crackle jack... no toy suprise in it either....

Ok, this may seem like a noob question, but it's got me stumped. My US Charvel has the inverted jack on the end under the strap button. Ive been getting some crackling when I play so I thought the cable was toast. Ive tried 3 cables, including a brand new high quality one and same thing.. Now I DO route the cable tween the strap and button for support, but Im still getting the noise if I bump the cable. So, must be the jack.. I pulled it and the nut is snug, jack mount is mounted snug to the body, all the wiring is well soldered (factory job) no breaks, no wires touching. I bent the tab inside for a more snug fit. So, we will see, but I think its still doing it, just havent had the chance to really test it. The guitar hasnt been played so much that it should be worn out.

Any other ideas of what I should check??

Thanks

Spray it with contact cleaner. My mate had a ****ty 3way switch that wasn't working in the bridge position and we just dropped a few drops of string cleaner onto the shaft and it fixed it instantly.

That or one of the factory solders is working it's way loose.

The contact arm on the guitar jack is either rusted or loose

Remove the cover and dress it a bit

Re: Crackle jack... no toy suprise in it either....

I had this on my main guitar for a few weeks so a few days ago I finally took the jackplate off and inspected the jack. Sure enough it was corroded a bit at the contact points so I took some sand paper and brought the shine back. Works great again. Not bad for an 8 year old jack that gets used heavily every day. Give it a try if your jack has some rust or corrosion on the contact points.

Its not the amp, and the solder points on the wiring look real sturdy. Custom Charvel work and only a couple years old and only been plugged up about 50 times. Ill try some cleaner and roughen up the contact patch a bit. Thanks for the input ya'll.. yeah, pun intended.

Well yeah, but you can't very well say thanks for the output, that would just be all kinds of wrong :D
