Craigslist SCORE: NGD in White!

It's my first white guitar (ivory?), and I've wanted one for a long time (most all my guitars are black). It's an older Schecter Tempest Custom that came with Duncan Designed HB102's. I tried not to change the pickups, but I just had to. I threw in some white SH-8 Invaders that I had in another guitar that wasn't seeing much use, and dyed the rosewood black(er). I haven't been able to put this thing down since, and I really like the way it looks. It's the least expensive guitar I own, but it also just might be my new favorite. It's like my poor-man's (hardtail) Synyster Gates model now. Makes me wonder why I spent so much in the past. I'm thinking of thinning out the herd now, and getting at least one more Schecter. This is my first experience with them, but I'm very impressed.

nice guitar man. I almost bought a shecter one time, but even though it was an awesome guitar I couldn't get past the neck being finished or the fact that it was red.

I've never owned a Schecter but I've played a few that impressed me in the past. Nice guitar, good purchase.

Re: Craigslist SCORE: NGD in White!

Thanks guys! I should qualify my statement about it being "the least expensive guitar I own" - it's not like I have a bunch of nice guitars. I "stole" this thing for $160 (with hardshell case and a strap with (broken) straplocks), and that's the only reason it's my least expensive guitar. If we were going by what it cost new, it would not be the cheapest guitar at all. I still can't believe it was that cheap, but it did need a LOT of work. All the frets were rusty, it was disgustingly dirty with grime and nasty gunk everywhere. I cleaned underneath all the knobs, and even inside the pickup-ring screw-holes were caked with nasty stuff. I mean, I really had to SCRUB it everywhere, using alcohol and Q-tips to get in the crevices. I'm telling you, it was the nastiest guitar I've ever bought. The chrome was all pitted, but luckily steel-wool sorted that out in a jiffy. It had greenish stuff all in the TOM bridge, and I scrubbed it with a vinegar and a toothbrush, then dried it with high velocity air and added a little oil to the threads. The strap button screws were all bent, and I still need to sort that out.

It turned out even nicer than I thought it would after de-grossifying it. It's 9 years old, with minor dings and scratches.

Schecter is a solid performer. At a buck sixty? oh hell yes…

Double Inviders? :headbang:

White with Black Poles? Pure effing class!

By the way…Seymour has been known to rock a Schecter he picked up for two bills. With a set of Seths.

Much much win!!!!!! Well done!!!!!!

Sweet. Is that a neck & bridge Invaders, or just two bridges?

Re: Craigslist SCORE: NGD in White!

Schecters are such a good buy: ive played some with my eyes closed vs a Charvette super strat: couldn't tell the difference in the neck.

Most of them have huge frets: but other than that, if you don't mind the scale, it like a super strat neck on a mahogany/ maple cap. Schecters are the best buy for a guitar under $400, new or used.

SH-8b and SH-8n, bridge and neck. The neck measures half the Ωhmage. It's still a ceramic magnet with huge pole-pieces though. I would never put a bridge 'bucker in the neck, or vice versa. I'm just not like that. I just like it when they look alike, like a matching set. Especially with this one's white and black motif. Invaders would make unmatched pickups seem more noticeable to me, because of the huge hex-caps on one, but not the other, although I am rocking that ensemble on one of my teles, and I think it looks alright, because of less chrome surrounding the Invader at the bridge, contrasting with lots of Stainless Steel around the neck 'bucker (I care about aesthetics, when it's feasible):

Yuk, that green stuff in the bridge was sweat and skin that rubbed off and rotted... Nasty stuff!

Me too. ;)

So hows a neck Invader sound? You hardly ever hear anyone talk about that pup.

Edit: The more I look at that pic, the more I like that guitar. Dual Invaders might be the perfect thing to put into my white Patriot. I've already got the bridge.

Great score! I love the Tempest shape, and that looks like the exact model I had been eyeing a few years ago. Enjoy it!

Re: Craigslist SCORE: NGD in White!

Bump . . . for how's a neck Invader sound. :)

I'm not really much of a neck-pickup-guy, but it's alright. It's a ceramic magnet at around 7.8KΩ or something and I've heard there's some kind of capacitor wired in there somewhere from the factory to tame the highs, but I didn't see anything at the end of the wires. I guess It's wired and hidden in the magnets or something, if this rumor is true. Or maybe they redesigned the newer ones, but it was like any other SD pickup when I wired it in.

I think it sounds "smoother" than the Duncan Designed it replaced, I believe, in my head, it's a higher quality "smoother" tone. I'll tell ya'll right now I got it mainly for the aesthetics to match the bridge and complete the package. I probably don't use the neck enough to justify the cost for the sound. I mainly use the neck for a lower volume option, accessible with the switch. I'll flip the switch down to the bridge and rock out during the commercials, then flip it up to the neck with the volume turned down for when the show comes back on, when I'm watching television, for instance. I chose to forgo the neck Invader on my Tele though, but this neck has got an alnico DiMarzio wannabe that sounds good enough, and the colors match:

That TH-8b Black and Chrome Trembucker Invader in the Tele sounds VERY different from the SH-8b below. I wish I knew how much of that was the spacing, and how much was the scale-length, stainless pickguard, shape, "tonewood", etc. The White Invader sounds the best to me. It's "smoother" and just jams. The Black and Chrome Trembucker version sounds a bit "grittier" to my ears. I really think it has a lot to do with the spacing and the tighter spaced poles just sound better.

I really dig the way they look, tone and sound should always be secondary (J/K)
