Cream Woman Tone with a Strat?

Hiya!

Is there any way to achieve the Cream Woman Tone with a strat without using humbuckers or strat-size humbuckers?

Re: Cream Woman Tone with a Strat?

Probably not, but you might get close with some overwound alnico II singles.

Re: Cream Woman Tone with a Strat?

If I need to thicken up my Legacy I use my wah in a set position. You might get a thicker tone balancing the tone control on your guitar and the position of the wah. You'll probably still not get that thick sustaining tone you're after cos a Strat won't give you the mid range or sustain.

Re: Cream Woman Tone with a Strat?

Sought of close but not really.....Bridge pickup, roll the tone almost all the way off,and use an eq to beef up the mids and low mids...

You could try just the neck pickup also..You really need the SG,335,or the LP to get it right though...

Re: Cream Woman Tone with a Strat?

Try the Duncan SFX-01 pickup booster. That's exactly what it is for. To fatten up a single coil pickup.

Re: Cream Woman Tone with a Strat?

I agree...the Duncan Pickup Booster or a Boss DS-1 will help make a Strat or Tele sound more like a guitar with humbuckers. Also a smallish 20 watt tube amp with a Celestion speaker: CRANKED. I use a Boss DS-1 and couple of 50's Fender tweed Deluxes each with a Celestion G12 alnico speaker and (like Jimmy Page on the first Led Zep album) I can make my Tele sound like a Les Paul. Lew

You can get close with a neck pickup and a fuzz, roll the tone knob down to tame the raspiness of the fuzz pedal.

Re: Cream Woman Tone with a Strat?

maybe a Fender Eric Clapton Mid Boost Kit will do.

you'll need additional routing though.

Re: Cream Woman Tone with a Strat?

Thanks for the replies! Now, if I did use a strat-sized humbucker such as the Little 59 in the bridge would I be able to get the woman tone? Since I believe you need both humbuckers from the SG to have it work right? Or do I have the idea of how to achieve the woman tone completely wrong?

The "Woman Tone" was achieved by using the bridge position of a Gibson LP,335,or an SG and rolling the tone control almost all the way to 0 or close to it,using a .015 tone cap and then playing through screaming Marshall Plexi amps set to 11....A Boost like a rangemaster helps also or a treble boost..

Re: Cream Woman Tone with a Strat?

The SM-3n Firebird-style mini-HB in the neck of my ash/maple Tele will do the trick with the tone control rolled down, so the scale length shouldn't be an issue.

I play an EC Strat.... and you can get it close but not the same. I also have an SG and a 335..... with a humbucker Pick the PUP you want roll the tone down. crank the amp up and there it is. Bottom line is I don't think you can really get there with a single coil.... close maybe but not quite the same.
