crunch bucker

Hey guys, I have an american tele deluxe with the samarium cobalt single coil pickups. Alder solid body, maple neck. I love the tone (most of the time) if playing with another electric guitarist. But on my own the tele is too thin. I really want the best humbucker for the neck and am planning on leaving the bridge pup alone for now.
Full and crunchy that still cleans up really well is what Im looking for. I dont need anything too hot ( dont play a lot of metal or thrash). And anything thats too vintage sounding makes me think muddy.
So im leaning towards the sd 59 but not set on it yet. I have red alot about the pearly gates, JB, antiquity, brobucker, customs/custom, sd jazz, alnico 2, seth lover, the list goes on and on.
My set up guy says that the Alnico 2 and seth lovers can be too muddy.
Also I just red that article about hybrids which sounds very interesting.
Anyway, any imput or opinions/advice would be great.
P.S. I am 100% set on Seymours.

Re: crunch bucker

welcome to the forum...I'm not too experienced on many of these pickups, but I'd personally go with the '59 for simplicity's sake, as they are usually pretty good pickups for many different applications.

Re: crunch bucker

I agree with mrturtle... the 59s sound good in pretty much anything, and as long as your amp allows you can play any genre you want.

Re: crunch bucker

i dont usually think of crunchy when i think of neck pup. itll sound fine distorted but it wont be as crunchy as a bridge pup

Re: crunch bucker

One of my Tele's has a '59 at the neck and sounds fine to me. But as jeremy said, crunchy is not neck p'up zone. Thick, buttery or woman tone is more like it.

Re: crunch bucker

Thanks for the imput guys. I totally agree about crunch being in the bridge, and really the single coil that it already has is rather great 4 that, just too thin. I kind of just meant somthing that is brighter rather than too muddy. (I can always roll the tone nob off) ALso I would like more sustain, which I think a bucker will give.
Im sure Ill use the 59, But im still rather interested in these hybrids. Somthing a touch hotter, and more modern of a sound to mix with the 59 to get a more complex tone.
Then again, maybe its dumb to try to add to or take away from what S.D. has already made.
Anymore imput would be great. And thanks again.
