Crunch Lab meets mahogany!

Re: Crunch Lab meets mahogany!

I'm really tempted. I guess I'm not much of a ceramic guy, the duncan distortion didn't really cut it for me either. The only ceramic mag humbucker I'm happy with is the EMG81 believe it or not. I might just open it up to see what I'm getting in to. If anyone has recommendations for removing the magnet from the glue and securing the new one I'm all ears.

Given the specs of this pickup what would be the best mag option? I'm thinking of starting with a standard alnico 5.

Re: Crunch Lab meets mahogany!

Now that the new strings are a little broken in and I've had some time to play with this baby it seems to be warming up to my ears. However, it still has some pretty tight(stiff) action and I'm not in love with the power chords, I'm hearing a weird bright metallic overtone on the rhythm that is a little hard to get used to. I'm not ragging on this pickup at all though, just trying to get a handle on it. The fact that I can't stop playing this guitar surely says something though. I'm going to record a few licks tonight and see how they sound, I'll post 'em up soon.

Re: Crunch Lab meets mahogany!

I had a lead part recorded but had a hard time mixing so here is just a repetitive thrash rhythm recorded with the crunch lab. Much crunchier than I thought originally after taking time to tweak everything. Oh, and I must reiterate in case I wasn't clear before, the crunch lab is amazing clean. Maybe I'll record some clean tones because it is kind of unbelievable how clean it is when it is not tearing your head off.
