CTN builds a Star

Re: CTN builds a Star

Fixed some blotches on the 1st colour coat, and laid down most of the 2nd coat. There were a few tiny splatters so I'm gonna wait for them to dry a bit, sand them down and recoat.

Also, these things are fantastic... makes spraying SO much easier!

Colour coats are done!

The body is drying but the headstock is dry to the touch.

I'm gonna get ready to put the decal on in a bit and I'll take another picture, but feast your eyes on this!

Re: CTN builds a Star

Fresh n tasty!

looks blotchy cuz of the water underneath the decal but once that evaporates, it's time for clearcoat and onwards to unrelenting epicosity!

Re: CTN builds a Star

I rough cut it using a coping saw while the neck was securely clamped so it wouldn't move, then I took it down to the line using a bunch of different files.

Re: CTN builds a Star

few more pics of the headstock, just for fun.

Also, here's the stencil I made to spray my logo on the case. I cut it out of a section of cereal box!

Re: CTN builds a Star

lol thanks.

But really, fitting everything was kinda necessary so that any issues could be dealt with before paint. Bit of a nuisance to put everything together and then take it all apart only to have to put it all together again (not to mention, a waste of a perfectly good set of strings with maybe 1.5 hours on them at most...but yeah, it had to be done.

I'm gonna start clear coating in a bit

That headstock looks... delicious. I'm not sure my brain will be able to handle the sight of the body at this point...

I keep seeing mentions of people reusing strings, but I never understood how they do it.

The kinks from bending over almost 90 degree angles and the tight winds from the tuners kinda make it impossible to thread through the string-through-body channels and rewind them on the tuners tightly

Unless you guys have some super secret method of straightening strings that I haven't learned about yet....

With locking trems and locking tuners with a traditional tailpiece you can re-use strings, not so much in this scenario.
