Re: CTN builds a Star

Re: CTN builds a Star

I remember in 69 we came back from Canadia they ripped the VW apart and left it all over.. "Have a nice day" welcome back to the USA" Hippies..
it was pure political BS to show Nixon's "War on Drugs" was doing sheet. We spent about a month camping in N. Ont. Looking back I can't imagine what we looked like... LO
We had to borrow tools to put the wheels back on. Truckers are good people.
AND- The real funny thing is we had about 2oz of weed going into Canada all they asked was How much $ do you have (all of 32$) Welcome!

Re: CTN builds a Star

hahaha it's gotten waaaaaay more strict on both sides of the border nowadays. Moreso on the US side, but even so, they have the ability to scan your entire car so any questionable thing you might be carrying, it won't take them too long to find it. Easier to just buy your illegal substances in Canada.

Anyway.

Foamwork is pretty much done.

Now I'm gonna go set up my spray booth and hopefully if I'm done by tonight, I'll spray the primer coat on the body/headstock.

Spray booth is done.

I'm actually ahead of schedule by a couple of days so I think after I get some dinner in my belly I'm gonna chillax for the rest of the night.

Primer tomorrow.

Re: CTN builds a Star

Nice job on the case. What are you covering it with? You'll need to cut the styrofoam a bit more so the guitar will fit with the material on there. With it that snug now, it won't fit after you cover it. Easy enough to adjust. Probably a 1/4" all the way around.

Yep, I knew that. Already done :)

scroll back a page or two, I posted the pic of the inner lining and outer covering as well. The inner lining is a soft velvety material and the outer stuff is a supported vinyl/tolex type thing. I've also got some hardboard that will bolt onto the frame on the outer faces of the bottom and top halves, and then the whole thing will get covered in the vinyl.

Re: CTN builds a Star

Nice. That'll make it nice a comfy for any pets you have that might find their way in to it. Lol.

Re: CTN builds a Star

Don't have any pets lol

but yeah, it'll definitely pamper the guitar :)

Re: CTN builds a Star

hehehehehe i've been putting off wetsanding/buffing it cuz I've been focused on getting the star done.

Once I'm done painting the star in the next few days, then I'll set it aside to cure, and then I can deal with the exploder bass and finish off the Star case as well.

lotta work ahead of me.

I also gotta oil the neck on my Jolly Roger Cutlasscaster.

Colour coat #1: Done!

I'm wondering whether or not to do a 2nd colour coat, because I managed to cover the whole guitar + headstock pretty decently, but that used an entire can.

I'll check it later and see if there's any spots that I need to go over, and I can use the 2nd can for that. In any case, even right now, it looks super sexy. Can't wait to finish it!

Tomorrow, I start clear coating.
