Update time!
I decided to go ahead and make the riser for the front string ferrules. Used poplar cuz it's easily available. The riser itself is only 1/4" high but with the lip of the ferrules, the string ends up another 3/64" higher. I feel like the strings should clear the rear edge of the bridge just fine. Still gotta glue down the riser to the body.
Also finally got paint!!! Much thanks to Dominus for the assistance figuring out the right colour. This is a Honda colour called Graphite Pearl - it's a sorta metallic dark gray. I had to compromise on my original thought of getting a gray with a hint of blue in it. This will still be pretty close, but more on the fully gray side rather than the gray-blue I was looking for. Not a big deal really. Also in this photo is primer and clear coat, same as I used for the explorer bass.
I also ordered the decal. Pretty simple design but meh. I'm not a big fan of flash and bling.
Tuners/knobs/humbucker ring screws are still not here. Poo. Hopefully by tomorrow. Then I can figure out where to put the strap buttons and drill for those.
I gotta do the recesses for the neck ferrules. Kinda rethinking doing a contoured heel as well because with the deeper rear cutaway I did, it's quite comfortable even going up to the highest frets.

same colour as the body. It's glued and clamped right now so it'll essentially be part of the body anyway. I didn't want to make it stand out too much cuz I honestly would have rather not had it there at all, but for the sake of functionality I had to make it.
I'm gonna attempt to get the whole guitar + case done by May 25th because I've got a gig then with my old band (they're booting the current lead guitarist and asked me if I could fill in on the 25th and a couple gigs later in the summer as well). Bout a month to go. I think I can do it.

Neck is mounted to the body. It's really light!!! This is gonna make running around on stage a piece of cake. I weighed it on my bathroom scale and it says it's only 5 lbs. I can't help feeling that it might be more somehow, but I dunno....it is really light. Rings like a bell when I tap it though, so that's good.
Tuners are STILL not here. FFS. I was hoping to get them here today so I could start painting this weekend but I guess that's a no go. It'll have to wait for next week. I can only assume that they are still stuck in customs or CanadaPost is dragging ass now for some inexplicable reason. Damn it all to heck! Heck I say!!!
But in the meantime, the headstock is shaped. It is so unbelievably badass and epic, I've been running around with the guitar make-believe rocking out for the past 15 minutes. Camera battery died so I can't take a photo yet, but it's charging now, so I'll post one later tonight.
SOOOOO close to being ready to paint.

-Drill tuner mounting holes (need tuners)
-Drill humbucker mounting holes (need mounting screws which are coming with the tuners)

I'd countersink the neck screws if it were me, and I don't dig the riser. I see your point, but meh, I think I'd ride with it. It's still awesome, don't get me wrong.
Mines getting the original six point trem from my Destroyer, since I couldn't come up with the money to buy Mike's real Charvel trem before he moved it.

not sure what you mean by countersink the neck screws...the ferrules are already recessed, and the part where the screw head sits is countersunk.
The riser is really sticking out like a sore thumb right now and does look kinda funny, but once it's all painted, it should blend in a lot better.
I too thought about going with a charvel trem or at least something in the same style, but then I realized that I really prefer hardtail type guitars and I'm not a big trem user anyway.
