CTN builds a Star

Re: CTN builds a Star

The Pickguard makes it look very Classy, sort of gives it a vintage vibe.

i dunno about the vintage vibe... but it does look good. I took it off today, just to see what it'd look like without the pickguard, and it looks so plain and boring, despite the killer paint job.

Nice new avatar! :headbang:

How's teh case coming?

lol kinda slackin on that front. hardware's all mounted, but I haven't gotten around to gluing in the velvety cushioning.

Re: CTN builds a Star

The styrofoam is a bit too tight. gotta fix that before gluing in the velvety stuff. Right now, putting the guitar in it doesn't just drop in comfortably, it's extremely snug and I gotta press the guitar into it's form-fitted shape.

That's pretty much the only reason I've been putting it off...the styrofoam dust getting static-y and flying all over the place is something I ain't looking forward to.

Gotta test out the glue to make sure it'll keep a firm grip on the fabric too.

But it's not like the case is unusable :p just...a bit incomplete ;)

Also, I gotta figure out some sort of limiting mechanism that allows a maximum lid opening angle of 90 degrees or just over that. I have some ideas, but I gotta get the right materials and make sure it works properly before comitting to it.

Bravo, I wanna make an axe. Sweet head, son. Is that inspired by anything? or off top of the ol' dome piece?

Automotive seat belt material. Chain has a tendency to lock up on itself and prevent the lid from opening very far ... the seatbelt fabric does not do that, plus it lays flatter in the closed case. A couple of screws with washers at each end, a little care setting the length and it's done.

makes sense, i think.

I had tried to do exactly that with strips of the tolex material I used for the outer covering, but the lid just stretched the hell outta them. I didn't even think it could flex, cuz it seemed pretty stiff and not very elastic.

Re: CTN builds a Star

How did I miss this thread? That's a really cool build, man. I keep checking around in the Warmoth catalogue to do a Les Paul build. This thread may inspire me to do so. Plus, I think it would be sweet to have a custom inlay/logo/sticker say "jason" instead of "gibson" I bet it would almost go unnoticed.

Nice job man! I love the metallic grey.

Re: CTN builds a Star

Needs to be plated in real 24 Karat Gold, with genuine Diamond Inlays, Platinum tuner buttons, amd a Uranium pickguard. Just nitpicking..otherwise its great.

I hear ya. That's totally the papersoul/diminished triad ultra upgrade package though, and unfortunately, I am not fool enough to spend that kind of money on music gear when I have absolutely no reason to do so as a human being, guitarist, musician or functioning, sentient creature.
