which do you prefer and why?

what i'm looking for is something with a little more character and punch, and bigger bottom end and high notes that don't sound shrill. Sometimes overwound strat pups just sound harsher with hotter output that will make it sound like a sparkly HB or louder bright p90. I love the percussive quick snappy attack of single coils if that helps.

Re: Custom bridge vs. twangbanger

Since the Tele bridge pickup is my favorite, the Twang Banger works best for me... Maybe an APS1 or APS2 with a copper-plated steel plate under it....

Re: Custom bridge vs. twangbanger

I have to vote for the SSL-3 Hot, 'cause I love the mids, crunch and sustain ...

that said, the Custom Ant is great for a "better than vintage" tone, and I'd love to try the TB sometime with APS's..

I hope everyone knows I'm talking about a stratocaster I would appreciate any comments

Re: Custom bridge vs. twangbanger

One Idea is a Lindy Fralin high output alnico - it's a neglected pickup from his arsenal . I had one and loved it. Also a Fralin steel pole is supposed to be good.

I voted for the Twangbanger. I love the way a Strat plays unfortunately, I don't care for the stock Strat bridge pup tone. The Twangbanger takes you into Tele land where there isn't that icepick in the forehead tone.

Re: Custom bridge vs. twangbanger

one of my favorite sets is the twangbanger bridge with a pair of aps in the neck and middle.
with ssl1's in the neck and middle i really like the custom but in general i prefer the warmer tone of the aps and twangbanger. the custom has more bite and a little thinner top end
