that is an interesting way to rough out the neck shape but i assume its done by cnc

It IS cnc

The shape will get sanded out by hand later, I'm told.

I kinda feel like a solid black guard would look nicer with that top. The two very contrasting types of wood look a little odd there.

Seen a guitar with a spalted maple pickguard a while back. Thought it cool, so why not?

I agree. Two contrasting patterns juxtaposed shows you have a very poor taste. Same as pearloid pickguard over figured top.

But hey, it's either you got taste or you don't.

I see zero point in having a figured top then plastering a plain pickguard on top of it. Might work for some $200 80s tribute guitar, but I've already had enough of those.

Might as well paint the entire thing in 80s neon paint.

Of course if it were a Les Paul, a small cream scratchplate would be a no brainer.

If you're going all the way, you might as well put abalone binding and gold hardware.

Thought about gold hardware

Might go with that route in the future (who knows?), but for now I'll stick to black chrome.

I think the pickguard might work if you paint the guitar in a vivid translucent color like red, green, blue or gold.

Stunning. Too bad it's gonna be covered by that lame ass pickguard. Should have gone with rear routing to show off that gorgeous top.
