Re: custom/jazz for les paul versatile?
Custom is pretty **** good rock/heavy pup in LP bridge, and it works for other stuff, too, if you roll off the tone a bit. As for the neck, Jazzn/b, and Pearly Gates are all recommended here (I've only got Custom/PGn combo, and that is heavenly for rocking or something heavier, and PG is great for blues lead tones, and shred, that bright top end (or high mids, whatever) is brilliant for soloing. Jazz is articulate, too, but hasn't got so much power (not really a bad thing necessary, PG is quite strong with Custom), has more bass.
Custom/PGn or Custom/Jazzn/b, all are great combos for rocking with a LP.
I noticed you've got an all-mahogany LP. The Custom, Screamin' Demon, or a Full Shred would be my choice for it. Demon is brighter, A5, it could match that mahogany well, I think. FS is bright, too, but I haven't tested these two.
(FS is/was used by Viv Campbell of DIO and Def Lep, and Screamin' Demon was designed for George Lynch of Lynch Mob and Dokken. I believe both have used their pups in their LP's)
