I'm agnostic on that opinion. However the DiMarzio Eric Johnson humbuckers for his Les Paul are supposed to be humbucker sized versions of the Gretsch pickups. Has anyone here tried those humbuckers? If so are they any good?

In terms of speed, he was right up there with Steve Morse. And he played, you guessed it, a hollow-body Gretsch. And other than being packed with foam, it was stock. It was a very sweet guitar.
So the idea that all you can play on a gretsch is rockabilly and swing a la B.S. is, IMO, BS.
