Custom Strat Bodies

Where can I order a custom strat body with custom paint? No fancy design, just a color that Fender or others do not easily offer. Preferably alder or ash body.

Re: Custom Strat Bodies

You could take it to some automotive spray shops and ask them? They would know how to do it and would more then likely have way superior gear to other places.

You should paint the raw body with sanding sealer first, But the shop may have ot6her ideas but its worth ringing around and asking.

Re: Custom Strat Bodies

That sounds about like a good deal...I pay about $130 - $180 for an unfinished body and then pay a couple hundred more depending on whether I want paint or an oil finish.

Re: Custom Strat Bodies

They quoted me at $375 for a body with whatever color I want. Good deal? Includes alder wood, and whatever measurements I request

That is a great deal when you consider you will spend about $300 to just paint the body.

Re: Custom Strat Bodies

Musikraft does not have painting, and warmoth never responded to my message. MJT responded right away, and their finishing looks very very awesome. I think MJT may be the ticket, and I absolutely wanted nitro finish, so its a win so far

Re: Custom Strat Bodies

Warmoth most certainly don't do custom things not in their catalog.

Re: Custom Strat Bodies

MJT bodies are cut by http://www.wildwoodmfg.com/ and you can order pretty much whatever you want. I have several MJT bodies, and while the pickup routes are not vintage correct, the shape is fine.

I can't think if a better bang for the buck than MJT

How does Wildwood quality rank up against a MIA? MJT has about a 8 week turnaround, which I guess is normal.

So musikraft is no longer an option? I read somewhere they used to offer that as an option.

Does wildwood state one way or another what the source of their wood is and how selective they pretend to be about "tonewood"?

"MIA" as in Fender?

Anyone from Warmoth to KnE would be comparable to a Fender body. The popular tonewoods are bought by the truck load, and it is dumb luck as to what you are going to get. Unless you can sit there and knock on each finished body, you get what you get.

One man's bright is another man's cut.

I'll quote a few exerts from their website. Doesn't sound like they are too particular when the wood comes in, but it seems like they fine tune it to "perfection".

A big part of what we do is sourcing wood. We purchase and stock all the basic body woods as boards or as blanks. These 8/4 boards and blanks include Swamp Ash, Alder, Khayan and Genuine Mahogany, Basswood, Sugar Pine, Popular, Western Maple, Sitka Spruce and reclaimed Old Growth Redwood.

We purchase at least one thousand board feet each of Ash and Alder every month. We use a variety of sources, including a good local hardwoods store, Almquist Lumber, and many suppliers who have been in the music wood business for many years.

All of our vendors certify the genus and species of the boards that we purchase from them and sign a certificate that states that they know the origin of the wood and that the wood is sustainably harvested.

The process begins with a discussion with you to understand your requirements. Our CAD software is utilized to interpret size and shape, weight reduction pattern, arm and waist bevels, pickup and neck pockets, etc. into a set of commands that the three axis CNC machine can follow. The machine carves two bodies each cycle, two fronts and two backs, with accuracy to a couple thousandths of an inch. Pickup pockets, rear control cavities, neck pockets, and weight reduction channels are accurately reproduced on all guitar and bass bodies.

Over the years, we have developed a library of traditional body shapes with a vast array of pickup and bridge configurations. Completely custom solid bodies, semi-hollow chambered bodies, "bent-top" bodies, and carved tops are our specialty. We work from proprietary designs or can supply traditional shapes from our library of body styles.

Fancy wood tops for the "bent-top" series are vacuum formed over the solid body core wood to produce an elegant appearance to your instrument. From the fancy quilted and flamed maples to the exotic woods such as Koa, cocobolo, spalted maple, buckeye burl, and fancy myrtles, almost anything is possible. All bodies are carefully sanded until they are almost ready to paint or finish.

After the CNC machine, calipers and programs, our products are enhanced by human touch. Through a series of sanding stages, the bodies and necks achieve the potential to become parts of a fine instrument. When they are packed and shipped from our shop, they are ready for final preparation for painting or trans finishing.

Yes, I meant to say MIA Fender Strat. So if I'm understanding correctly, there's only a few sources for guitar bodies, and it's pretty much luck if you get a great one or a meh one?

I want to order a swamp ash body instead of an alder, as I already have a mim alder, would be nice to have an ash strat as well. A heavy ash would be ideal!
