Danelectro

Do their pedals suck?

I know they are all cheap and I hear people ripping on them constantly but few others find them as godsends... what do you guys think?

Re: Danelectro

the Cool Cat pedals are clones of boutique stomps. the Trans OD, a copy of the Timmy, is really good. i've tried it. the Drive is a Fulltone OCD copy. both are really good for boosting. i might buy one then rehouse it.

Re: Danelectro

Yeah, I think Guitar Player gave them a Gold Award for one of their pedals and a few select people say they are the best but 95% of people say they suck. Thanks for the input, anyone else?

Re: Danelectro

Because some users expect a $ 35 Dan pedal to sound like a $ 185 pedal. :lmao:

IMHO

good value for the money, specially the cool cat pedals,

Re: Danelectro

I'd say they are far from rubbish.
Ok so they've not got very robust feeling build quality, they can be heavy on battery life and it's not true bypass.
You only have to look at the harmony central reviews of most of their pedals; I don't actually think their are that many people who are disappointed with them.
I think people dismiss them because their cheap.
I'm quite fond of my FAB overdrive and Chorus.

Re: Danelectro

I've got the Fab Echo and Chorus. Bear in mind I'm not the guy with the best ears around here but they sound good.

Sure, the echo is a slapback delay and the chorus won't get you a huge, lush sound (you can use it as a tremolo pedal as you can get it to open and close the volume).

They won't get you trippy/experimental sounds but they will add a tasteful amount of their effect to what you are playing.

Construction wise... it's plastic. The base is probably just pot metal but it fits well and comes off easy enough. No problem with the foot switch but at that price you can use it to hell and back and put it's guts on another chassis if it breaks down.

They devours batteries, I'm trying to find a multi pronged adapter to feed them but for now I just use a couple of wall warts, I wouldn't trust the batteries to last through a big show but that depends on how much you use the pedal.

I like them for what they are. Accessible pedals with decent effects. True bypass, metal housing, long effect times on modulation effects... That's not what these are about but I've seen people tampering with them on youtube to get those things so you can also invest in them if you want to take that road.

For me, they are perfect, they get me that tiny bit of effect and that is that.

Re: Danelectro

for over the top fuzzy big low end distortion my go to pedal is a 8 year old full size Dano Fab Tone... what an amazing sound that thing gives off for solos and heavy metal

Re: Danelectro

I'm still very impressed with my transparent OD... I can't believe I paid that little for such a good sounding unit. But that's just my opinion though.

Re: Danelectro

If the tone of those in the metal case with true bypass (if you want it) is there in these decently build Dano's, they are a steal. They do not seem bad to me. I am not really too into what they are doing, but they are no noiser, or poorly put together than any of the mass produced pedals I would say.

Re: Danelectro

It depends on which ones. The small $35 pedals are really hit or miss. I really like my Dan-Echo though, I just with it was true bypass.

Re: Danelectro

I have the Cool Cat Tremolo and it works well but it eats up batteries fast and I am not sure why. For a tremolo I was not going to spend a bunch of cash for that simple of an effect. For chorus and other effects I would spend a bit more and get a MXR because the build quality just seems better. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Danelectro

I have the Transparent OD..metal case...knobs face the wrong way, but sounds great!

Definitely not junk!

Re: Danelectro

A fab tone is a cool pedal IMHO. If you mod it, it can be a very very nice and quiet OD pedal. The EQ change it gives off and the huge volume it has makes it more like a very nice OD with the huge wads of gain it has on tap turned down. Do some asymmetrical clipping mods plus change out the chips if desired and you have a very boutique sounding pedal for a not so boutique price.
