Ive been seeing the ads for the new Dean Thoroughbred and thinking that looks so familiar and then it hit me that it looks like my Michael Kelly Patriot Custom but with a better cutaway.. Just wonderin.

Re: Dean Thoroughbred made by Michael Kelly??

Wouldn't surprise me in the least. The MK's play a bit better (I prefer larger frets), but they're very similar.

Yea, looks like it fits in the Patriot, solo 6 mold. All very similar. At that price point, wouldnt surprise me a bit if all 3 came out of the same factory.

Re: Dean Thoroughbred made by Michael Kelly??

They`re all made by Samick (or was it Cort?) just a few feet from another, is this really that surprising??

Nobody "develops" cheap imports and hasn`t since the 80s. They just take features already offered on that style of body in the same factory and mix and match, then have their logo put on. There are only 2 large guitar manufacturers in korea IIRC, practically nobody owns their own plant, those 2 ghostbuild literally almost everything. ;)

Not suprising at all. Its what I figured (and really know in the back of my head). I just find it all kind of amusing. Like the guitar companies think we wont notice. The Michael Kellys are pretty nice axes at a reasonable price.
