Death of an 808

Re: Death of an 808

I'm confused.
I don't understand.

Stomp the "on" button three times while saying "I want to go home, I want to go home" and you will be transported back to Kansas.

It's shaped like a Tube Screamer but it's Sparkly Red? WTF?
40th anniversary....

Google 40th anniversary gift.

Re: Death of an 808

It's a great sounding TS with tweakable mids and bass. If I had to get rid of all pedals except one, I'd be stuck deciding between this and my Crybaby.

I have the saucy box, and it aint never leaving. Jorge just has a certain magic

You have to say "there's no place like home candyman" three times while holding the switch down and speaking into the input jack.

Re: Death of an 808

If you need a replacement fast and cheap then Joyo Vintage Overdrive is an option. It's like 20-30 bucks and it is green.

Re: Death of an 808

Hey someone knows if you can replace the old japanese square switches on the Ibanez 1979 "0" series ? (TS808, AD80, FL-301, AF201...) ?
I have a dead pedal and I love this serie.

Re: Death of an 808

Just fix the switch. If you can solder you can do it, or get someone to do it cheap. Easy fix for sure

You sure can, Analogman sells them I know, and probably others.

Re: Death of an 808

All of this should have been discussed in the thread I linked above!!!!!

Re: Death of an 808

I have never really wanted a tube screamer before but that is AWESOME! Honestly, thought, it should be sparkly emerald green. Guitar players are easily confused.

Agreed.
That red-sparkle is just sad to put it lightly. It'so bad I felt compelled by duty to expose it's hideousness to the masses.

I still would like an od820 or vop9 for my small collection.

Re: Death of an 808

Thanks Dr0 for all the info on the MAXON TS.

I did not know about that one (seems cool) :

* Maxon OD 820 Overdrive Pro - $199 - the smoothest, warmest, most transparent overdrive ever. unique voltage-doubling circuitry for greater headroom

(Mine is a Ibanez TS808 re-issue and I use it a lot).

Anyone tried the Stampede Providence (supposedly a TS with increased headroom) ?

Re: Death of an 808

I meant is the Ibanez old square switch still available ?

Then I would repair my old Ibanez OD-850 (orange fuzz) : The only pedal I know which self-squeal when you max the controls. Then you don't control the pitch with your guitar anymore but you still play a melody if you manage to tweek properly the stompbox tone knob (!!!)

Hear this effect in Tear of a Doll "My Cat" (1996 album) : a guitar solo played without actually touching the guitar.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpMxaa8TbBc
song number 11 - My Cat > 34'40"
Fuzz tone knob solo 35'57" to 36'12"

Re: Death of an 808

Check out the Dirt Clod. It has an 808 chip and diode to ground, you can switch between them. You can get both your Tube Screamer tones and MXR D+/DOD 250 sounds. It has an analog signal path but digital switching with 10 presets.
