TO, how many presets does the PXR-4 have for amp modeling, etc.???
I would have to scroll thru mine to be 100% sure, but I think it has 99 factory presets, 99 user presets ...

Re: **DETAILED Korg PXR4 Review!!!**

What is the difference between the "factory" presets and the "user" presets??? Can you post more sound clips on your website that sound more heavy metal (shredding, etc.)???

The factory presets are the ones you can dial up on the fly ... but, if you make any changes, you can then saved that changed preset as a user preset, which are basically YOUR customized presets.

And yes, I can track more heavy sounding stuff. I'll make a special "Heavy PXR4 Demo" track ... I'm tracking a solo tonight, but using the VG88 for that; I think I'll have time tomorrow night to track some stuff, tho.

You can both practice and record with the PXR-4, provided you wear headphones and/or hook it up to a monitor (computer speakers, home stereo, ect).

Those Cube 30's do look pretty nifty though. I've been thinking of one myself for practicing with.

So ULTIMATELY, screamingdaisy, which would YOU buy, IF you were in my situation??? I'm leaning more towards the PXR-4 myself!

Hey Twilight!!!

Thanks for taking the time to review this! Earlier today, I was contemplating at some point buying a small digital recording device that would enable me to do say a guitar or bass track on the fly and then load it into a PC later or archive it to audio CD.

How much time would a 128 MB card allow you to record using all 4 tracks at high-quality?

Re: **DETAILED Korg PXR4 Review!!!**

I don't think there's an exact ratio anywhere that says "X amount of memory will yield Y amount of recording time" ... at least not one that I've seen.

I can tell you from my experience, that a 64MB card has allowed me to bootleg one of my own shows in mono, tho ... So, that would be 8-10 min of multitrack audio. Theoretically, then, a 128MB card will yield 20-40 minutes of multitrack audio, depending on how much compression you use.

** CASE IN POINT FOR THE PXR4 -- I'm leaving at 2 today to go visit my parents in Philly for the holiday ... and I'm bringing my Jem, PXR4, one cable and my headphones. Portable practice/recording rig for barely more weight than the guitar itself! And it runs off of just 2 AA batts!! :D **

If you're playing by yourself, I'd get the PXR4 first.

If you like to jam with your friends, I'd get the Micro-Cube.

Re: **DETAILED Korg PXR4 Review!!!**

Overall guys, which is a better buy, the Fostex MR-8 or the Korg PXR-4??? No one has been able to answer this for me, and I'm partial to both, even though I'm still leaning more to the PXR-4 because of all the features. TO, how many "heavy metal" based presets are there???

Well, I'm not familiar with the Fostex, and have never owned any of their products, so I can't answer the first part -- tho, Fostex is known for making multitrack machines, and not guitar modelers. That didn't stop Korg, tho, from making the PXR4; what I like about the PXR4 is that it's so well thought out, and is truly an innovative product, too. Plus, it sounds great!

As for the high gain stuff, there are about 10; however, you can get into the presets and make more than you will ever need as user presets. So, to answer the question: Pretty much unlimited!

guitarshredder, I'm in PA visiting the folks for the holiday weekend, but I didn't forget about making a high gain track for you using the PXR4!! :)
