Well, these kind of Diamonds:

Especially when they're... DUN DUN DUN

Even the back plate screws are painted. CLASS

I seriously love Diamond pedals. I wish my Memory Lane Jr. was in surf green. Damn you Humbucker Music for making expensive items in my favorite color...

The Diamond is replacing my Cusack Tap a Whirl. The Cusack is an incredible unit, but WAAAY too much for my needs. I use like... two of the 24 wave forms. And some of its features annoy me at times - I never know what tap division I'm in, and the fade in option is irritating when I just want to pull the trem in for a few seconds.

The Diamond, on the other hand, is deceptively complex in its simplicity. You get four waveforms, accessible via the up only (handy for toggling with your foot on the fly) switch - sine, sharkfin, square, and chop. The knob on the right has three subdivions - quarter, eighth, triplet, and another mode that I can't remember exactly what beat is emphasized. It also has a chop mode which looks pretty cool from demos, but one of my favorite things is the Manual mode. When in this mode, the pedal does nothing... until you press the tap switch. Since it's a momentary switch, it only stays on as long as you're pressing it. You can use it to put trem only on a certain chord, for example... pretty damn cool.

Some other features I like are the built in volume control - really handy on a trem pedal. Additionally, holding down the tap switch will double the speed of the trem, but not instantly (unless you want it to) - it will ramp up or down to your new speed. Me gusta.

I REALLY want to try this thing out, because I love Diamond stuff, but my amp is acting up and I've no idea why. I'll be able to give a full report sometime this week though when I jam with some friends - I'll be using either a single channel Orange AD30 or a Soldano Avenger. :p

Oh and SURF GREEN FTW

Re: Diamonds are a Guitarist's Best Friend.

I love the Diamond Tremolo. It is surprisingly versatile. And it looks even cooler in Surf Green.

I do wish it had a rotary switch for waveform selection instead of the momentary-contact toggle switch, though. I find it difficult to anticipate what the pedal is going to do when I tap it in during a song. Any mode that resets over a power cycle is bad juju for live use.

Great pedal board you've got there!

Re: Diamonds are a Guitarist's Best Friend.

I have had my Diamond tremolo for awhile now and I agree it is one versatile unit. I had the Empress before but I like the features more on the Diamond, particularly the manual mode.

Re: Diamonds are a Guitarist's Best Friend.

That's a sweet pedal! If I didn't find my Red Witch Pentavocal Trem was more than adequate for my own uses I'd be all over that one. I like that momentary feature you mentioned, I could really see that being invaluable when you just want a trem on for a few notes, but you want to get back to your standard tone quickly.

Unfortunately that's not how the momentary switch works on this unit. The small switch between the Depth and Vol knobs is a momentary-contact switch that steps through the four available modulation waveforms: sine, shark fin, square wave, and chop. The LED changes color to indicate which waveform is active, but it'd be better implemented as a 4-position rotary switch. IMO.

The chop mode set for triplets is great for playing One Of These Days.

I think he was talking about the manual mode.

Having owned the ML Jr for a good while now, I prefer the momentary switch. Plus, it remembers your last waveform (or subdivision for the ML Jr) even when you power off.

Re: Diamonds are a Guitarist's Best Friend.

Excellent choice, fantastic quality pedals for sure. And that board is just awesome!

Re: Diamonds are a Guitarist's Best Friend.

Nice one, man. I've been looking for a trem pedal lately. Of course, I can tell by looking at it that that one is way out of my price range, but it looks cool. Congrats. :beerchug:

Re: Diamonds are a Guitarist's Best Friend.

This thing is awesome. Maybe it's me, but it seems more musical than the Cusack. I'm already using it to come up with new and interesting parts. It"s really cool to be able to use it as just an accent instead of having it on or off.

Re: Diamonds are a Guitarist's Best Friend.

Saw you have a ML and an El Cap -

Check this out...

Tried it with a DD-20 in place of the MLII and in mono. Similar, but not quite the same. I was almost going to sell my El Cap.. LOL

Re: Diamonds are a Guitarist's Best Friend.

Nice.

What do you think about the sharkfin compared to a symmetric triangle? I'm looking for a triangle trem.. I'm not sure if I'd be happy with this.

Re: Diamonds are a Guitarist's Best Friend.

You could choose any pedal on that board and it would be more expensive than my entire pedalboard haha.

(other than the polytune)

Yeah... I spend too much money on this.

But it's fun as hell. I've got some new fuzz pedals coming in over the next few weeks that I'm really excited about.

Re: Diamonds are a Guitarist's Best Friend.

Are those made by the same peeps that make the Diamond amps??

I cant even recall what my Trem pedal is. Dunlop I believe..
