Differences between the Bill Lawrence L500 models?

Re: Differences between the Bill Lawrence L500 models?

I would like to know as well. Which is the PAF-ish one?

In ascending output:

C=Clean
R=Rhythm
L=Lead
XL=Face Melting

No preference, but I would probably go with an L in the bridge and something from DiMarzio like an Evolution in the neck.

From my experience, they are almost identical in sound and any difference between different models is likely due to the guitar and not the pickup (L500s are insanely transparent). I've heard at least five vastly different tonal descriptions of the XL alone. What I've found is that the C is the quietest, the R is louder, the L is even louder, and the XL is the loudest. The C and R are often used in the neck to pair with the L and XL.

None of them are even close to a P.A.F., regardless of the inductance readings. We must not forget that all technical figures are irrelevant when it comes to describing Bill Lawrence pickups.

The closest to a P.A.F. would be the "R", if we rely on inductance (although Bill Lawrence have their own sound, if you ask me).

Without a doubt, they have their own sound. They are high fidelity pickups, exhibiting clarity and definition, even when using heavily distorted amplification. They rival Bartolini and Lace in those respects, while costing far less to buy.
