Digital Modelers

On all of these units there is a learning curve and if you are anything like me, there will still be things for me to learn when it breaks, becomes obsolete or whatever...lol. On a couple of my products my buddies would say "man, the tech is so good" and I would be like "that means little to me because I have no idea how to work it and had to watch 3 videos just to turn it on and wire it up....lol."

Haha! Yeah, I’m in the same boat. I’m having fun and I’ve learned a lot so far. My biggest obstacle right now is learning how to eq properly.
Not the BMT eq, but deep diving into parametric eq, the various types and what frequencies affect the tone in what way.
I have found that setting this correctly really can make to model sound and just as important FEEL like a real amp.

Oh yeah, I do have an graphic EQ block after the amp models that rolls off the lows below ~100 - 150 and highs above 6K (maybe 4K, I'll try to look tonight). That seems to help.

And yeah, spikey seems to be the best word for overdriven Fender sounds to me, I've heard great albums made with them, but they never seem to work for me.

Fenders have always seem awfully loud, for the wattage- to my ears. I attribute that to their spiky EQ...! :)

I got a pod go awhile back from line 6. It’s like a helix lt light. One signal path but the effects are stereo. Most of it is following the helix pretty close and the next software update with the Princeton, diezel and precision drive should be out soon.

If nothing else it’s a nice entry point to learn the helix without too many options. I got an alto ts312 speaker and it sounds great for practice. If you set a 100 hertz low and 6k high eq roll off it sounds really good. I found tons of free ir’s to import. No more dragging half stacks to every practice up 3 flights.

There are some great amp models in it. Some pretty good effects, and even if I get a full helix I’ll keep it as a backup or practice amp. I wish it would change the amp models within the snapshots but it works fine as it has plenty of good pedals I can stack on clean amps or high gain sounds that clean up well.

I can see the Pod GO being a good place to start. They just introduced a new one with a built in wireless. As an entry into the Helix ecosystem, or as a 2nd or 3rd pedalboard, I bet it is perfect. I am loving the HX Effects.

I'm still using my GT-1K, and really like it, but I only use one preset for with 2 channels and some basic effects for everything at church. I have a few presets set up similarly but with different models that I use for my stuff, just doesn't seem like I'm maximizing what it can do. So, I have a RK5 v2, AMT P2, and AMT B2 laying around, along with some various other pedals and a 2 channel DI box, so I bought a b-stock Rockboard to see what I can put together. And yes, have to dial back the gain on any of them or just use my modded SD-1 for church use. Not sure if it will replace the GT or not, I keep flipping on that. But, never bad to have a backup of some kind around I guess. The Rotary effect on the RK5 is pretty cool, may use set it for that and run external delay and verb pedals, I have a TC HoF and Flashback, then can feed the DI box in stereo.

Have you seen the AMT Chameleon CAB CN-1 for a cab sim? Holy smokes. It's been around a while. Use this with your AMT pedals.

I'm thinking running my 5150 OD in to that with some delay and reverb in between would sound great. But the 5150 shines in front of a clean amp so something like the F1 after it.

After much deliberation, I sent back the Zoom G11. Back in the market.

GT1000- Sounds / feels good, but the user interface makes me sad.
Headrush- I like the sounds and interface, but its humongous. And apparently they have reliability issues. Will not fit on the music stand on my desk.
FM3- Want more than 3 buttons.
Helix- Don't like the distortions.
Quad Cortex- Pricey, not sure if it will be worth its price prior to 2023 when they finish the computer editor and USB interface.

Grudgingly leaning towards Gt1000. I dont think I should spend 1K on something I'm not excited about.

The Boss interface isn't bad after you use it a bit, definitely better to edit from a computer.

Call Prymaxe and Sweetwater and see what kind of deals they will make you, I paid considerably less than $1k for mine new when it first came out although I think prices have recently gone up.

Yeah, I've seen those, also looked at the ADA GCS and the Digitech CabDryVr dual IR box, kinda leaning toward that right now, but honestly, the analog cab sim built into the AMT pedals is really good, wonder how similar it is to the one in the Chameleon just without adjustable parameters(?).

I had a feeling you were going to send it back.
The Quad seems nice but I don’t like the layout. It seems too small and the buttons aren’t placed in a foot friendly fashion.
And tbh, I know you like the touch screen but this particular one on the quad doesn’t do it for me.
I’m honestly just not seeing anything I like better then the Kemper Stage.

Get a Kemper. :)

Ive used a GT100 since 2015. The interface on the 1000 is essentially the same thing, except it shows the whole chain at once instead of scrolling.

Having mailed back the G11, I've been playing the old 100 and its not as good sounding as I was able to get the G11 and I'm remined how clunky it is. Having to scroll through the chain to select an effect, then page through the parameters is such a PITA. And only having four flex blocks.. while it should be enough (two on the 100 is not enough), its just messy. Because the effect chain is fixed, if you want to select another effect to edit, you have to scroll through the whole damn chain. So going from editing your boost, to editing your reverb is always a bit of a journey.

I will check Prymaxe. Sweetwater did not sound like they wanted to deal.

That's why I usually just plug in a USB cable and edit on the computer with a mouse, yes, scrolling on the screen can be a pain. But, not sure what you mean about the chain being fixed, you can move the effects anywhere on the 1000. It's been a few years since I used the 100 so don't remember if you could on that.

But, as mentioned, maybe a Kemper would work better for you? The floor unit is just over 2X what I paid for for my GT and I can't really justify that for myself right now, and I do have a good workflow with it. Next step for me may be going back to AMT/Tech 21 stuff and individual pedals.

There are 25 blocks you need to scroll through if you want to adjust your boost, then your reverb. There is no way to eliminate blocks from the chain.

Ah, I get what you are saying now, but they are not fixed in position in the chain. And again, without the computer I agree, it is be a total PITA to program.
