I am very tempted to put one of these in the bridge of my Jackson Dinky but i thought i would stop by first and ask for opinions from anyone who owns or has had experience with this pup!!! Thanks! :)

Very fat, tight bass, dark highs, just like the description on the DiMarzio site. But, somehow harmonics really come out even though the highs are pretty dark. It's a good sounding pickup with very high output.

How`s the clarity/definition? Is is similar to the Super Distortion? Because i`ve tried that one before and although i thought it was good, its something i wouldn`t get!

It's way, way more compressed and darker than the Super 3.

Incidentaly, the split sounds are very close to a real single in tone.

Yep. Sorry for the typo. Sometimes my mind goes faster than my fingers.

I`m confused..lol Which pup is compressed and darker and what does this mean? Well, i know what is meant by dark sounding....... but compressed?

Listen to any Def Leppard post-1994 (when the Super 3 was introduced). Phil Collen uses it in his Jacksons. It's a very fat and thick sound.

I wasn't a fan of the Super3 in my PC1. I'm really not a fan of the SuperD series period though.

But is the definition good or does it just sound like mush?

I think it's good. If you have a bright guitar that needs some help filling things out and taming those highs, the Super3 will do the trick.

Re: DiMarzio Super 3....any opinions?

I've got a Super 3 in a 1997 (I think) Ibanez SC420 (fixed bridge, mahogany body, bolt-on neck) and I've always really liked it. I have to say I have a Les Paul with a 500T in it which completely slays it though. I think that's down to the Les Paul, not the pickup, though. Everyone I speak to hates the 500T.

The Super 3 is crunchy and... well, basically I bought it based on DiMarzio's description and it did what I was hoping for. I haven't played the Ibanez much since I started using valve amps though. I need to check that out.

It was standard issue on the Fender HM Strats too. I like it, it's tight and dark, not overly compressed, but the output with alot of gain can get compression. It's not muddy, but thick, and it stays pretty clear (not sure how, but it does). On a dark sounding guitar it would be too much, for a bright bolt-on, it's great if you want a high output DiMarzio sound. It isn't PAF-ish sounding though, it's not an "open" sounding pickup. The huge output with the tight lows make it fun to play though.

Re: DiMarzio Super 3....any opinions?

I put one in my Hello Kitty Strat. The stock pup was thick but lacked definition and was kind of 2D sounding. The Super 3 totally woke that guitar up. It sings, screams and chunks. It's not the most defined unit, but because of the thightness of the lows it doesn't get muddy.

I guess it could be considered a bright guitar......Jackson Dinky.. bolt on Maple neck and Alder body. It should be a huge improvement over the EMG-HZ thats in there now so........

Thanks for all the input/info people.... I think i`ll give it a shot!!!!

Late as Hell to chime in,but I'm quite digging it!!!
Thick & hot,but still pretty tight,also.
It's in a set-neck cheap-o LPC copy,no maple cap.
Might try it in my Epi LE LPC,but the Norton's pretty cool in it already.

Re: DiMarzio Super 3....any opinions?

They were the factory bridge buckers that Fender used in the late 80's in the old HM Strats. The Super 3 is a Super distortion with the highs rolled back and a Super 2 the SD with the high end rolled on. I just pulled a Super 3 trembucker in cream and black out of my hardtail poplar bodied 91 Carvin DC125 and replaced it with a EMG 85. I'm thinking of dropping the Super 3 in my all maple 88 Carvin V220T in place of the current Tone Zone.
In a bright guitar with a solid high gain amp the Super 3 has just a crushing tone. It's thick and fat but still has great definition.

Re: DiMarzio Super 3....any opinions?

The guy at dimarzio tech support suggested i try one for my Rg 3120. I am in the mood for soething a bit warmer in the bridge slot of that guitar. I was actually considering a standard super distorion but he recomened that one. My axe has an evo 2 right now. Itasmahogany/ flame top and maple neck/ rosewood board. Do you guys think the super 3 would be too dark in it through my recto?
