Do put it in a bright guitar though, preferably a maple board one. That, plus a NMV or early MV series Marshall plus an Echoplex preamp style pedal, phase 90, tape delay pedal, chorus and of course a flanger.

That will without a doubt get you in the ball park. There are a lot of VH branded and tribute pickups out there. At the end of the day most of the tone comes from Eddies technique, chord voicings and style.

At least 10%, and of course the other 85% is the amp and FX….
There are many paths to each and every sound. I saw a guy plug a stock Kramer Pacer into a Peavey and nail it ~1981 or so. There is no one path. Whatever combo works for you.
I could do it with a SuperD though.

J.R.R. Tolkien himself couldn't have written a longer quest than yours to find that "perfect" early EVH sound!

Sure, Eddie still experiments (we all do...it's what keeps things interesting), but his entire life's work is not trying to recreate the first album sound. You've been at this for years on countless forums. Meanwhile, other people figure it out and move on. To each their own, though. I hope someday you get it all figured out

And it never will while YOU are the common factor. YOU are not EVH. You can have his exact rig but YOU playing through it will NOT sound like him. Just ask Ted Nugent, he knows first hand. You can get close, but that's it.

What confounds me is that others have been at this for decades, come to a consensus after lots of verifiable research, and then here comes pittbull with something completely different that he can't back up and calls everybody else that knows anything a bunch of liars, jerks, and whatnot.
