dime amps?..what the hell?

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

That's actually one thing Courtney Love has done right. She really hasn't allowed him to be exploited like she could have. If she wanted to, I'm sure she could have let companies make all types of Cobain model guitars, pedals, amps, etc.

WOW . . . Go Courtney !

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

With this train-of-though, i am very surprized that no one had milked the Kurt Cobain name more than they have !
There too, is a massive 'icon' for alot of people, epsecially close to my age.
I was 18 when Nevermind came out, so my entire generation knew about Nirvana, if they wanted too, or not.

The only Kurt-thing i know of, is the sea-foam green Fender that a friend of a friend's sister owns. Very light guitar btw.
IMHO, it is a good thing, but still, sometimes i wonder why it did not escalade into a bigger thing.

I've thought about this before too, actually. I was surprised. The only thing I can think of is the Jag-Stang that he designed and Fender makes, and even that was discontinued for a while in the '90s.

Though, to be fair, if you look outside the guitar gear world you'll find his face on just about anything and everything. Posters, T-shirts, mugs, keyrings, notebooks, backpacks, stationery, etc, etc. I guess maybe they thought there was a bigger market for his image in stuff that all kids will use rather than focusing on a niche market like fickle musicians.

No reason they can't do both, I guess. I wonder if we'll see more of it in the future.

Well, i think you have a point there.
Us muso's are a hell of a lot smaller target market than the rest of the buying public out there.

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

There's a lot of this in business (Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, etc.), but since we're players and musicians, we notice it more with 'icons' like Dime.

Remember the Jimi starter packs that Gibson almost got to market? When people started screaming about that ridiculous travesty, Gibson pulled the plug and threw 'em in the fire. If these amps don't sell, Dean will chisel off the Dime logo and put another stamp on them.

yea...i dont know what the hell gibson was thinking with that bone headed move.

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

This just makes me sad. I wonder what Dime would think.

i havent heard them ,so i have no clue what they sound like...i wonder if he would have liked them?..i did watch the clip..hard to get a real read from a video.

Like i said, NOTHING like his old Randall WarHeads :

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

His 1st prototype from KRANK !
Later became the Krankenstein. (1st gen)

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

They're pretty bad. I love Dime and the gear he rocked but I can't get behind his name being nothing more than a brand.

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

These were designed by the very man who did the Randall RG. He, along with Grady Champion(Darrell's long time friend and tech), who knows more about Dime's tone than maybe even Dime himself, worked their asses off on these amps.

By all accounts, they really do sound great. If that's the type of tone you're after, of course.

Dime only used the Warheads for his clean tone, anyway. This is straight from Grady's mouth. His tone was always the RG100, except for the period where he used the Century.

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

I was friends with Pat Lachman at the time this happened, since his brother was in my band. All I can say is that if Abbott's family benefits from this, that's all Dimebag would have cared about. It doesn't do anything but keep his name going as an icon, and I'm sure he'd be cool with that as well.

I remember being at Lachman's house when Randall sent all those amps to Pat, and thinking the Randall Warhead was a total POS. Based on the clips of this Dime amp, I'm positive it's a better sounding amp than the Warhead.

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

I wanted to share my thought (FWIW) on the Kurt Vs Dime gear issue. I think the reason you see Kurt on clothes and other items so much is he was the voice of the generation.. His words were prized more than his chops, so he is more of a widespread Icon vs more limited to the guitar world. Dime, was a great guitarist..

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

saw crowbar a few days ago and both guitarists were using dime stacks. sounded pretty good, suited crowbar. kirk always used the old RG100ES like dimebag did, so itd make sense hes using these. not surprisingly, i liked the other guitarist's tone (JB-loaded LTD) better than kirk's (EMGs).

Or maybe he just wasn't that good and market studies showed that nobody really wanted junk with name on it....

Blame it on Rita and Vince. They control what gets released under the "Dime" brand. Honestly, from user clips posted the amp sounds great, IMO. Grady Champion had a BIG input on the amp as well and he certainly knows his **** after being Dime's tech for many years.

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

The Dime sounds sooooo much better than the Randall Warhead. And for the price I might just pick one up for the house... the wife is gonna LOVE ME. Getcha Pull B!tches !!!

Re: dime amps?..what the hell?

Mmmmm, looks like I am the only one who prefer the nasty gritty SS tone of the Warhead.

The new Dime sounds like a generic (to my ears off course) SS amp to the point where i think it is very boring.

The Warhead sounds real NASTY, but that is it's appeal, it is voiced to sound vey diff, and not like, "just another" SS amp.
imho

;)
