i just got a randall rg1003h solid state head and i love it. i'm not loving the emgs in my guitar. i've been thinking of replacing the pickups sometime, and the dimebucker has always been one that i come back to. i've heard people say the dimebucker sucks, but they are usually on demos with tube amps. will a solid state amp close to the one dime used make it better?

A. The Dimebucker is awesome
B. It does not matter if its thru a tube amp or a solid state amp
C. You should not hang around people who say such foolishness
D. Get a Dimebucker

;)

I love mine–it definitely nails the Metal tone but is super versatile. I play in Church and run it through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, which is a Tube Amp and it sounds killer. I have two clips clean and with gain in the Tips and Clips section if you wanna hear a smaple.

Re: dimebucker?

Well, I would say the Dimebucker set would be great for you–both the Screamin Demon and the '59 in the neck would give you the ability to do Metal and Classic Rock, although the '59 in the neck would be the more traditional approach to doing so.

Re: dimebucker?

thrash with some rock thrown here and there is exactly what i do, and i totally love the dimebucker dude, for the neck, the 59 compliments well with it, but if you want a little more texan spice to your tone for those bluesy licks that happen on classic rock then put a pearly gates bridge on the neck slot man

also, me dicking around with a pretty brutal tone on some dime riffs

btw that's my main bright metal tone

I have heard people say Marshalls suck, Les Pauls suck, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese sucks....people are quicker to say something sucks rather than express why a product didn't fit for them. The Dimebucker is a great pickup and more versatile than most people think. You can go from Classic Rock to face searing Thrash with the pickup. If you split it the pickup opens up another world of options. As previously stated a lot people pair it with the 59 ala Dimegbag. I paired mine with a Jazz in the neck and have never been happier. One thing you have to keep in mind is people online play all different styles of guitar. I would seek out people that are playing the same kind of music as yourself and get their opinions. I would also ask them if they have ever used the product or are they parroting something they read online. If you are playing Thrash the Dimebucker is a great choice.

What kind of guitar is this?

Whoa, never thought of a Pearly Gates Bridge in the neck...that sounds so tasty! :firedevil

+1 To this! Are they giving reasons such as they couldn't dial it in, it was too shrill, it was too powerful, etc or are they just saying its bad? People like to get on a bandwagon and alot of times someone else's bad experience becomes a hundred people's complaint. (kinda like the internet buzz about Gibson USA and terrible Quality Control–seems like a lot of the people who bash it never owned one and are just going by what someone else said online.)

I agree 100% and would argue that the Dimebucker could even make a great Country pickup...I use it in Church for a lot of Gospel and Blues/Rock...so far it has handled everything I've thrown at it.

What kind of guitar is this?

This would be nice and helpful, along with a pic ;)

How is the mid punch in the Dimebucker? I'm looking for a Godzilla pickup so I'm thinking Dime or Nazgul.

I have not tried the Nazgul–personally the Dimebucker is on the Brighter end. I have it in Walnut and both pickups (paired with a Screamin Demon) sound warm/mellowish but I'm thinking it is the Walnut. I would say the Mids are there but more of a treble emphasis. Has Stainless Steel blades and Ceramic magnets, so plenty of treble bite/edge to it...hope that helps...?

Yes indeed it does! Thanks! I don't want it to be too bright but I like the cut of the Dime.

I'm thinking of putting it in my Charvel. It's basswood, floyd, maple/rosewood neck. How do you think that would sound?

It's HH with a super switch so I can get some cool combos and, as stated above, the Dime splits very well.

I'm thinking it may be a tad too bright in Basswood (but Walnut is suppose to be bright and mine turned out to be more mellow so maybe an awesome fit) but I personally would still give it a try.

I didn't care for the JB in Basswood because I couldn't tone it down, so I'm thinking you may run into a similar issue with the Dime IF you are not wanting too much treble response; however, the Dime will definitely cut through any mix and a lot of people love the JB in Basswood so my ears may just be funky. lol

Edit: the bright/treble sound is why I think it would make for a great Country/Chicken Pickin' pickup

Thanks!

I'll have to go with the Nazgul. Dime's guitars are all mahogany with an ebony board.

Anytime! I will stand by that the Dime is an incredible and awesome pickup AND that everyone should try it at least once in their life...well maybe not everyone ;) lol But I think for your personal needs the Nazgul (without me playing it but based on what I've read) is what you are looking for, not the Dime.
