The DF is nothing like any Duncan pickup. It has the hairy top end of the PG (like you said), the aggressive mids of the JB, and the strong, tight bottom end of the Custom. For how hot it is though, it always stays highly articulate. The cleans tones still have a sparkle to them, despite all the compression.
DF doesn't compare to any Duncans IMO. It's a pretty unique creature.
It has a hair about it - kind of like the fizz people report on a PG's high end. But it is wayyyyy hot. In an AWESOME way. I like it a lot more than an X2N, which I think is maybe a better comparison.
