I've never actually paid attention to PODs. Ive heard about them forever, but just never paid attention to them. How do they work? Do you use it with an amp, or does it act as the amp itself? Does it go through your computer speakers?

If I'm not mistaken, you can run it through your amp, or independently through computer speakers or headphones. PODs have amp and cab simulation that you can used to run through alternate speakers. They're good for recording or modeling a live sound.

I dont think that all tube amps need to be cranked way loud to sound good, but the triple xxx must be cranked. As others have stated, buy an attenuator

I think they sound pretty good, I cant remeber how good it sounds cranked past 5, but I'm sure its alot better. 5150 low sound better that the triple XXX low for sure.

I found both to sound just as good as one another at low volumes, actually.


In regards to the post directly above... if you crank a 5150 to 5, you're retarded. Seriously. The amp doesn't even get louder above 5, it just becomes more compressed, buzzy, noisy, and farty. I can drown at my drummer with one 4x12 with the master volume on 3, and only the biggest gigs have me turning up to 4.

LMAO yeah, I've done it, but it peaks (tonewise) at about 3, and then past 5 it just gets worse.

I really like the sound of tube amps on low level volume... I really dig this shshzszszshzshsz sound :)

If you get an attenuator, go with a weber minimass since the amp is below 50 watts. That will save you a great deal of money. Find one used on ebay for less than $100 and you will find better tone at half the volume. I use it 75% of the time on my amp and it would be inconvenient without it. Although my laney actually sounds pretty good at low levels also.. just a little more buzzy.

I was looking for one on ebay with no luck, but i did find an interesting auction for some nice dist pedals with a standard mass attenuator.. guy is not too bright, but obviously doesnt mind taking a hit on the sell price.
